Coverage Options - 4.1 / 5

First American offers two plans, the Basic coverage, and Premier coverage.

While their basic coverage protects mainly kitchen appliances, their Premier plan offers complete protection for all main home systems as well as appliances.

In line with most businesses in the industry, however, they will not cover cosmetic damages, damages due to improper maintenance or installation, and any known or unknown pre-existing conditions.

Coverage amounts differ by contract, yet their limits range around $3,000 in the aggregate for kitchen refrigerators, $1,500 for heating systems, and $500 for ductwork, which are substantially higher than comparable companies.

Contract & Price - 3.8 / 5

Annual premiums with First American can range from $300 to $500+ depending on the plan and option selections, quite reasonable within the home warranty industry.

The company extends a standard 12-month contract term and allows customers to obtain quotes and enroll online. Contracts seem to have different cancellation policies according to geographical location, so customers are advised to read their warranty agreements thoroughly before signing.

For instance, Texas residents may cancel their plans within the first seven days of coverage for a full refund, whereas Virginia residents have 20 days to cancel and receive back the entirety of their payment, provided they have not filed any claims under said contract.

We pay the extra fee per month for air-conditioning coverage. Air conditioner went out middle of July in Kansas, over 100° for five days in a row with no air-conditioning called to check status get the runaround regarding ordering parts versus approval. Representative would not give name offered $150 voucher to be reimbursed for a portable air conditioning unit. Portable air condition units cost around $400. Would not offer additional reimbursement for air conditioner or hotel room. Also would not send confirmation email that we would be reimbursed for the $150 if we purchased the portable. Representatives change stories regarding whether parts have been ordered or even approved for... Read More

I have a, so-far, unanswered claim for a faulty garage door opener. After one week awaiting for a repairman, I find out there is no one in my area to repair it. another week and I finally get a tech from Sears who discovers the motherboard in my motor unit is faulty, Week three I find out there is no spare part available and it may be MONTHS before the part become available. I again call and am told this has to go to some other department to see if the motor unit can be replace en blanc. Going on four weeks and still NO repair! The contact is CLEAR -- if you cannot repair it you MUST replace it. No part available means you cannot repair it. Stop giving me the run-around. I paid $545 for... Read More

I wanted to give them a 0 (zero), but it wasn't an option. I have been with your company for years. As soon as we can get this situation resolved I will be cancelling my contract and the contract on my daughters home. I placed a service call the first days in May. Work Order #613864707. We have had 4 technicians to the house for a total of 7 service calls. Every time I have had to miss work to wait at my home for the visits and not earning pay. First American has sent out the wrong part 4 times and the technicians are not able to repair my stove. The Sears technicians have told us that this part is obsolete and cannot be cross referenced for a new part. I was just on the phone today for... Read More

Very Poor response and service. No call back about claims or reviews. Closed claims without anyone showing up at my home. Took 3 times to get service provider to show up. Statements on file report items that were not told to me by service company or anyone from First American. Terrible Experience!!! Switching companies

This company has wasted countless hours of my time. First, the tech they sent out to deal with my dishwasher left water all over the floor for me to clean up. When he came back, he chipped my countertop reinstalling the dishwasher, and glued it back on, so we wouldn't notice for a couple days until it fell off. Next, my microwave is mounted above my stove. It has been there for 23 years, and has naturally started to bend the frame, causing the front grill to snap off. I have duct taped it into place, but it keeps falling off nonetheless, and several times, into hot grease, splashing it everywhere while cooking. The microwave itself stopped working around the same time, so we filed a... Read More

Work Order 613911567 I am in Peoria, AZ temperatures have been between 116 and 122 for the past several days. First AC unit went out on 7/8, I was told by the representative that I was in an emergency queue. However, the initial contractor never made contact. Then I was told that the dispatch team would respond within 12 hours and they never did. Two days later, I was told to then find my own company for HVAC and given a $200 authorization. As the entire unit needs replaced I am now waiting for First American to get Sears out and that is scheduled for 7/16, six days into an emergency issue. Now my second AC unit has failed as it has been trying to compensate for the massive... Read More

READ THESE COMMENTS BEFORE YOU BUY. The company is terrible, they are a nightmare to deal with. I have had a refrigerator claim ongoing for 37 days . They lie about parts , contractors deadlines and replacements. I have spent over 7 hours on the phone (mostly hold) and you cant get to a supervisor . The have broken every promise they have made. The select the worst contractors because they pay a fraction of the prevailing rate. SO you get unvetted , unqualified , not certified repair technicians in your home. The company they sent to me has an "F" rating with the BBB and has 200 negative reviews online and a 1 star rating on EVERY site I could find..The current estimated time frame... Read More

We got the first response threatening letter from FAHW on date of 06 to 29/2020, "FILES COLLECTION THREATS" We had to call 4-5 times they never answer the phone, but holding for a.30 minutes and recording said they would call back, and they never call back about 5-6 times, so, we are sending another number 5 emails as of 06/30/2020, at the time: 6:56 pm. FAHW again, never call back, they said they'll call back. Issue of the service called payment of $75.00, vs. fee we paid to FAHW the amount of $71.50, on date of 03/13/2020, and canceled FAHW SERVICES date of 03/13/2020, the deference of the amount of $3.50. It will be smarter to clean it up as soon as possible. Enough... Read More
