First American offers two plans, the Basic coverage, and Premier coverage.

While their basic coverage protects mainly kitchen appliances, their Premier plan offers complete protection for all main home systems as well as appliances.

In line with most businesses in the industry, however, they will not cover cosmetic damages, damages due to improper maintenance or installation, and any known or unknown pre-existing conditions.

Coverage amounts differ by contract, yet their limits range around $3,000 in the aggregate for kitchen refrigerators, $1,500 for heating systems, and $500 for ductwork, which are substantially higher than comparable companies.

Annual premiums with First American can range from $300 to $500+ depending on the plan and option selections, quite reasonable within the home warranty industry.

The company extends a standard 12-month contract term and allows customers to obtain quotes and enroll online. Contracts seem to have different cancellation policies according to geographical location, so customers are advised to read their warranty agreements thoroughly before signing.

For instance, Texas residents may cancel their plans within the first seven days of coverage for a full refund, whereas Virginia residents have 20 days to cancel and receive back the entirety of their payment, provided they have not filed any claims under said contract.

This was packaged with my new home, and if you have this.. run. Run far far away. 95% of the contractors I’m dealing with are scammers. The reps are on the phone, while nice have a useless script to follow. I’m in Colorado and this is a complete waste of money and time. Go off and find better contractors outside this company. I've also reviewed this "company" on Google and it took Home Warranty less than a week to respond to my 1 Star post.... Meanwhile 4 months later I'm still dealing with faulty repairs that a contractor did through Home Warranty. I've hired an outside contract who actually cares. This is a joke of a company!! The list goes on and on with horror stories here. My... Read More

Our furnace blower motor went bad. We contacted First American Home Warranty 6/2/2023. Our experience with them has been nothing but horrible. They will not call back, we get the same excuses each time we call them. Today is 8/2/2023 we we still don't have this resolved or an air conditioner during the summer. We have older family member staying with us so we had to go out and by portable air conditioners. Spoke to a representative again today and received the same blow off that we have gotten every call. Save your money in a piggy bank for future repairs - you cannot rely on this company to fulfill anything they promise. In case there are any board of directors reading this... Read More

Hi Linda. We would like to apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced during the handling of your claim. Our records indicate you placed a claim on June 6, 2023, for your furnace not working properly and we dispatched independent contractor, NW Sundance Services Incorporated to diagnose the failure. NW Sundance Services Incorporated reported a failure to the blower motor, recommending the blower motor be replaced. Since the repair parts have been reported as no longer available, the contractor has recommended replacing your furnace. The replacement furnace has been ordered and NW Sundance Services Incorporated has updated First American informing us that a repair appointment has been scheduled for August 23, 2023.

Worse Company Ever. I'm a senior who lives in Central Florida. I called First American Home warranty on July 6th 2023 because my HVAC system was not cooling. Service Assigned to Circa Service FL LLC, who schedule repair for 6 days later on the 11th of July. Mind you the temperature has been ranging from high 90's to above 100 degrees here in Central Florida. I called the warranty company about the schedule date of repair I was told that told that the companies have up to a week to do the repair. No concern about the wellbeing of the customer. I suffered in the heat while I waited. On July 11th technician arrived stated that the Braker box is burnt out and the capacitor is not... Read More

On 06/04/2023 my AC in my home stopped working. I placed a claim with FAHW on that same day. They sent out Zips HVAC to my home to check my AC on 06/06/2023. The HVAC company said it was my Air handler that was the issue and they would inform my warranty company. I was not satisfied with that company because I didn't see him run any diagnostic test and also explained that to the warranty company. After fighting for a second opinion they then sent out Extra Care LLC on 06/16/2023 and that contractor and myself had a very heated exchange because he claimed he couldn't answer any questions I had regarding his findings. I didn't understand why not. The warranty company was also informed about... Read More

Terrible company - they use terrible service contractors, they don't verify the work the service contractors claim to perform, they avoid performing repairs, they don't keep any promises on timelines for repairs or updates, they promise to call back with updates and they NEVER do. I was forced to replace my fridge after two botched repairs and on the third repair request they dragged their feet for 17 days and I still had no estimate on a repair date or confidence that the correct repair would be performed. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY! Such a rip-off!

Hi Michelle, according to our records, you placed a claim on July 1, 2023, for your refrigerator not cooling. We dispatched Premier Appliance Service (Premier Appliance) to diagnose the failure. On July 13, 2023, you contacted us inquiring about a cash payment in lieu of repair. On July 14, 2023, Premier Appliance reported the evaporator cover had failed, and we ordered the part. On July 18, 2023, the part was delivered to the Premier Appliance, and you we were unsuccessful in reaching you to inquire how you would like to proceed. Upon receiving this review, we see you have replaced the refrigerator outside of your home warranty contract. As such, the cash payment in lieu of repair has been processed. Kindly allow 5-7 days for delivery of the check.

Worse company ever. Our water heater broke down and we submitted a claim on Wednesday, after 2 days they sent a plumber to check the issue. We were told the gas control valve needs replacing, and they will call and notify First American for further steps. I called the following Monday to check the status of our claim the plumbing company said it will take 7 to 10 days for them to receive the part which could be found even at Home Depot. I called First American to ask how soon the part purchases will get approved and will be sent I was told it is in process and they cannot give any specific information about that. Just imagine how difficult it can be not to have hot water for a shower; no... Read More

HVAC Issue: I have been customer of First American home warranty since 2008 and have been paying them monthly since then. I never had any major issue with since then. However, for the first time, I needed their help when my HVAC broke down on 5/31 in summer heat of Texas and I was without AC with 2 little children and my elderly mom. I created a service request, and first contractor came out on after 2 days on Friday evening who found that evaporator has been broken down and I need to work out with supervisor on coming Monday who come to explain the repair process and my out-of-pocket charges. As it was emergency, I asked First American to change the contractor. Second contractor came out... Read More

First American’s records indicate regarding your air conditioning claim. You did not want to agree to pay the non-covered cost associated with the evaporator coil replacement. Two different contractors that were dispatched, provided two separate diagnoses, and recommendation to replace the evaporator coil. They reported modifications associated with the evaporator coil replacement, which no modifications are covered items, per the home warranty contract. You informed First American, requesting to take the cash out payment option in lieu of the replacement of the evaporator coil. The cash out payment was issued on 06/29/23, in the total amount of $637.83, which includes First American’s responsibility of coverage for the part and labor. Regarding your microwave claim, due to parts were determined no longer available for the unit for repairs. First American provided a replacement offer, you denied the initial replacement due to the dimensions for the unit. You then declined the option for a cash out payment but requested again for First American to find another microwave replacement, similar to your original one. As of 06/14/23, you accepted the second replacement offered, the microwave will be shipped directly to your home address. In regards to the refrigerator claim, the diagnose provided was of no mechanical failures found. It was reported the refrigerator needed to be defrosted; there was an internal freeze, and the recommendation made, for the refrigerator to be defrosted for 48 hours, and unplugged with the refrigerator doors open. First American will need to be provided with a second opinion in order to re-review the initial diagnosis provided.

I feel like I have been punk’d! I signed up with this company about 4 months ago and as luck would have my Jenn Air Oven stopped working. My first phone call was (Sunday) May 7th in which they took a $100 service fee and said someone would get back to me in 24 hours. 48 hours came and left and no phone call. The agent told me I was assigned to JC Appliance and to await their call. Someone finally called on Thursday, May 11th, and said he would be there between 2-4 pm on Friday the 12th. I gave him a call at 4:45 and he had totally forgotten that he put me on the schedule. He apologizes and puts me on the schedule for Saturday the 13th from 10 – 2 pm. Guess what, no call no show! I... Read More

Hello Robin, we apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced during the handling of your claim. Our records indicate you placed a claim on May 7, 2023, for the cooktop display not turning on. JC Appliance Services was dispatched and reported to find the control board had failed; as such, the technician recommended replacing the user interface board. I would give an overall rating between 2 and 3. I have been with First American since 2010. To be fair, there have been service calls that went well, but others not so much. When I had my heat pump go out (during over 100 degree weather), 1st Am said they were only going to cover the compressor and I would be paying over 1K for "non-covered" parts. Weeks (long hot days) later, after numerous attempts at parts, they decided to replace the heat pump all together. I still paid over $500 but that was much better than the alternative. When my garage door spring broke, I was told they would only replace the one spring, so I had to pay $300 for the other side--which was sure to go shortly after.... Read More

Hello Paul, we apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced during the handling of your claim. Our records indicate you placed a claim on August 11, 2021, for the garage door opener not opening or closing. 5 Star Garage Door Service and Repair of Cleveland LLC (5 Star) was dispatched and reported to find garage door opener logic board had failed; the technician replaced the garage door logic board on August 27, 2021, and reported the garage door opener to be operating normally. On May 12, 2023, you contacted us to check the status of this claim and to request further information regarding the second remote and keypad for the garage door opener. On this same day, we contacted 5 Star, who confirmed they replaced the garage door opener’s logic board and provided you with a retail bid to replace the second remote and keypad in the amount of $225.00. On May 17, 2023, we attempted to contact 5 Star to obtain additional information regarding the repairs that were completed and the retail bid that was provided to you; we were unsuccessful in reaching them at this time. We will be continuing to attempt to reach 5 Star until all requested information has been received. As such, we consider this claim pending.

I cannot believe that this company has performed at such an inadequate level - actually inadequate would be overrating their performance. I purchased the policy with the idea that "sure, I could fix things, but it would be nice to have our second home covered for small repairs that would make life easier." NO WAY!!! We had a simple thing - garbage disposal started leaking, so we called First American. That was March 26 and it is now April 10th. I just got off the phone after being hung up on by the company. After several calls to First American and their plumber - absolutely nothing has been done. I did pay them an extra $85 for their claim. A plumber came in and said, "yes your garbage... Read More
