Coverage Options - 4.1 / 5

First American offers two plans, the Basic coverage, and Premier coverage.

While their basic coverage protects mainly kitchen appliances, their Premier plan offers complete protection for all main home systems as well as appliances.

In line with most businesses in the industry, however, they will not cover cosmetic damages, damages due to improper maintenance or installation, and any known or unknown pre-existing conditions.

Coverage amounts differ by contract, yet their limits range around $3,000 in the aggregate for kitchen refrigerators, $1,500 for heating systems, and $500 for ductwork, which are substantially higher than comparable companies.

Contract & Price - 3.8 / 5

Annual premiums with First American can range from $300 to $500+ depending on the plan and option selections, quite reasonable within the home warranty industry.

The company extends a standard 12-month contract term and allows customers to obtain quotes and enroll online. Contracts seem to have different cancellation policies according to geographical location, so customers are advised to read their warranty agreements thoroughly before signing.

For instance, Texas residents may cancel their plans within the first seven days of coverage for a full refund, whereas Virginia residents have 20 days to cancel and receive back the entirety of their payment, provided they have not filed any claims under said contract.

On 1/26, we reported an issue of drainage blockage in the master bath room, the shower has been accumulating waters. The water became stagnant in the drainage pipe. The plumber dispatched by FAHW contacted us 5 days later. Even the master bath room was no longer used, the accumulated water in the pipe went bad and start smelly. After discussed the urgency, we were told it will take another 4 days to send somebody over. I called FAHW back, they told me their service level is sending service man with 10 business days. At the end we decided to forget the warranty, called an outside plumber to get the issue resolved. We understood the COVID impact. But the 10 days turnaround time is obviously... Read More

I have to apologize, my post was meant for American Home Shield, but from what I've read from the other postings, this company is just as bad!

Honestly the WORST customer service experience ever. All their Reps are now based in the Phillipines and have no understanding of American concept!! They have absolutely no compassion and are solely working off a Script. It's like talking to a foreign robots with no brain!! I've been with the American Home Shield for the past 20 years and up til the last 2 years when the Reps were stateside, had nothing but glowing reviews for them. But as soon as they moved their base to the Phillipinnes, it has been an ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE!!!! This company is based in Tennessee. Even if you try calling the corporate office, low and behold, you 'll be forwarded to the Phillipnnes Call Center!!

BUYERS BEWARE!!! The first time I filed a claim no one ever showed. The second claim they sent a plumber that was incompetent and did nothing to resolve the issue. I called to have someone come out, and spoke with two overseas reps who were just as incompetent as the plumber. I was told I told to wait two business days for a response, but instead received a text with an appointment with the same plumbing company I asked her not to send back to my home.

First American Home Warranty Service is terrible. It takes weeks to get simple repairs. I am to the point where I have payed out of pocket for repairs instead of making a claim because it is too much of a hassle. I have waited for a month to have my HVAC repaired. I am currently waiting for over 2 weeks for a leaky faucet. Claim has been assigned to a specialist that I have yet to speak to. Left 2 vm’s without a call back.

Terrible Home Warranty Company, avoid at all costs. Had this company for several years. Filed a single claim on our refrigerator after years of paying them. It's been almost 5 months, no repair. Had to file a BBB complaint and State Attorney General consumer complaint. They responded to the BBB complaint offering to replace our refrigerator with a lesser non-comparable model or cash payout. We accepted cash payout and have not heard anything further from them or received any check. This company is a SCAM. I have put a stop payment on my bank account draft and am working with my states Attorney Generals office on the matter for potential Fraud, Breach of Contract, Breach of Warranty and... Read More

I agree, this company is a ruse. I have had a year-long problem with service for my washer dryer with no result to date. I hope that something can be done about this company's fraudulent business practices.

If I could do 0 stars I would. American First home Warranty is the biggest ruse. We have been fighting with this "so called" service for almost 2 months to fix an AC unit in Texas in the summer. Gladys Stokes is the worst service person I have ever worked with at any company. Despite numetous attempts and tons of data and proof that my AC unit was bad, they continued to give reasons why they had to delay fixing the issue. I was defrauded by this company and they have NO interest in helping resolve this claim. In fact, they informed me my portion to pay was almost as much as the company who had given a quote to fix it. What is the point? Please warn any and all potential customers /... Read More

First American does not seem to care about the people who it is supposed to service. I submitted a claim for my HVAC two months ago. After having an HVAC contractor come out, who then told me I had to have an electrician come out, to just have the HVAC guy come back - I found out I had to replace the whole thing. I paid for most of it out of pocket, First American barely covered anything. The guys came to replace it and found there was an electrical issue. The same thing as the first time happened. The HVAC guys came out, told me I needed an electrician, then the electrician came out and said that the HVAC guys broke the wiring. When I told First American this, their solution was to have...
