American Home Guard offers three simple home warranty plans that are easy to understand and provide excellent coverage for all major systems and appliances. Despite having to wait for full coverage to go into effect, customers can expect generous repair and replacement allowances and reasonable service requirements with their flexible and affordable plans. American Home Guard's reputation has taken a turn for the worse this year, yet they remain a popular option among consumers and continue to receive consistently positive customer feedback on independent online review sites.

Coverage Options - 4 / 5

American Home Guard offers straightforward, transparent coverage plans for systems, appliances, or both. They also extend optional coverage for such items as pools or spas, sprinkler systems, roof leaks, well pumps, and septic tanks. AHG has a per-item benefit limit of $500 for heating and cooling equipment for the first three months of coverage, which increases to $2,000 after that initial period. Similarly, their benefit limit per appliances, plumbing, and electrical starts out at $150 and increases to $500 after the first three months. Although coverage amounts are limited during the initial coverage period, their repair and replacement allowance is quite generous when compared to that of similar providers, making them an excellent option for homeowners looking to get the most out of their dollar.

Reputation - 4.4 / 5

American Home Guard is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau or is a member of the NHSCA. On January of 2017, the BBB identified a pattern of complaints against business and requested information from them regarding the matter. Although AHG responded to the BBB's request, they failed to address the underlying problems causing discontent among their customers and were given the lowest possible rating. In spite of everything, American Home Guard maintains a high Trustpilot score and enjoys many more positive reviews than negative ones on the Better Business Bureau website.

Just had to file my second claim on my furnace this year. The first time the contractor came out he repaired it and had it running well until last week. I called in to have them send out the same gentleman as the last time as he was extremely helpful. Turned out it was the same issue as the last time. Glad he fixed it again he didn't even charge me the service call.

This company is horrendous. Do not do business with them. Purchased policy July 2016. Filed claim for electrical problems 1/26/17. After 2 weeks of no one showing up, I was asked by Cheryl to contact Mr. Sparky (their vendor) and set the appointment myself. I did and Mr. Sparky showed up only to be turned away by Cheryl at AHG because they were too expensive. Cheryl spoke with the electrician and then directed him to tell me to call her back, which I did. No answer. No response to message or email. On 2/21/17,I called and spoke to someone named "Bill". He said to put in writing (again) that I wanted to cancel my contract and wanted my money back. I did so. I received an email... Read More

SCAM If you want a company to help in an emergency, keep looking! On 1/10/2017 I called to report that I had found black water on my utility room floor and that we had pulled the water softener out and shut the water off and vacuumed the water up, that there was a plumbing problem. We pulled the water softer out to be able to clean up the water from behind and underneath it. My claim was denied because the water softener was not covered under my warranty. I said it was the plumbing not the water softener, the softener is covered by Sam’s Club warranty, (Sam’s honors their warranties). They sent me a list of 4 local plumbers and I called on 1/16/2017(six days later, the water was off... Read More

Hello Patti, We take our reviews quite seriously which has prompted us to review what events might have transpired. You have expressed to us via e-mail that we have resolved your complaint to your satisfaction and have refunded you in full. We understand things come up and it might be much easier to write the negative reviews than to take it down. However, It has been more than a few months since you have agreed to remove this review. The last thing we want is potential clients to be deterred from signing up with us after the fact we have addressed all issues and your expectations were met. We are once again requesting you update this truly misleading review and look forward to helping you on your next claim. Customer relations,

I notice on the reviews that everyone talks about how good the sales team was. Yes they are good at getting you in but once you file a claim is where they get you. I have been trying to get my Trane Heating System looked at due to some issues. I had to call and leave a message on their voicemail on 1.18.17, to follow up (because I had this issue back in November 2016 as well) I sent an email as well. Did I get a call back or an email response NO! I ended up calling on 1.20.16 and was told to leave another voicemail. I called back and hit sales (since they were so helpful getting me in) and got Frank. Explained to Frank my dilemma and he stated that AmeriCool was coming out on 1.23.17... Read More

I normally don't take the time to write reviews but American Home Guard is so terrible it was necessary to warn homeowners. They don't answer their phone if you file a claim. The only way I reached them was to contact their sales department who transferred me to claims. Our washing machine failed ($775) and the price to fix it was over $1000. They offered to pay me $150. I am going to report them to the Better Business Bureau.

The repairman did not want to wwait 30-days to be paid by American Home Guard. So Cheryl (an AHG Claims Representative) told me to pay the repairman directly and that they (American Home Guard) would reimburse me. I sent AHG the "paid in full receipt" and Instead of reimbursing me they cancelled my policy and reimbursed me only half the full year that I paid! I paid a full year policy in October 2016 and they cancelled my policy in January 2017. So, I paid a full year policy and paid for my own repairs. I am going to pursue legal damages and file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

I called in a claim for my heating unit and ac/heat fan on 12/22. I was told they were no longer servicing Texas due to fraudulent claims, even though I had not received any written notice. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was transferred to Joe who said he would give a message to Jim Connors. I spoke to him the following day and I explained that my claim should be honored since I called my claim in prior to being notified in writing of the policy cancellation, he put me on hold and then transferred me back to the claims area. I have called a minimum of 20 times, either I'm told to leave a message or I get a run around from the person that answers. 12/27 I was told me they... Read More

I have a valid contract with American Home Guard since 8.12.16. I notified them of a problem with my home heating system or HVAC around 11.23.16. They actually started the claim process on 12.6.16. They contracted a HVAC repair service to do the work. The hired company determined that the unit could only be replaced and not repaired. After multiple unanswered calls, texts, and emails they finally acknowledged my claim in an email dated 12.18.16. Once they realize you are filing a claim, they do not answer calls or return phone messages. I was also asked to communicate by text message from their rep and those went unanswered along with multiple emails as well. The requested documentation... Read More

Client Services of American Home Guard Home Warranty
In response to this review, this will confirm that attention was fully serviced to the policy holder with respect to the submitted claim. American Home Guard responds accordingly and in a timely professional manner to address any and all issues as they are presented to the Company. Be assured that we value and appreciate all of our clients, each and everyone is very important to us and we do our utmost to handle their requests and follow through to the best of our abilities in keeping them satisfied with the services we are able to provide. Our Claims Specialists offer a variety of ways to communicate be it via email, telephone or text contact. During the entire time of this particular claim, the policy holder was made aware of the status at each step. At thorough and complete evaluation of the circumstance and situation from the technician service call(s) and diagnosis of the state of the HVAC unit at the policy holder residence, it was concluded that this system had a pre-existing condition which ultimately could not be repaired. In this instance, the warranty policy terms and conditions do not allow for replacement of the system in question. It is then suggested that the policy holder may seek advice through their home owner's insurance policy as it is above and beyond what American Home Guard is able to cover and for which we cannot be responsible. In conclusion, we have done everything on our side to have the situation diagnosed with review from all documentation provided to us from the dispatched contractor, and we stand by our responsibilities in addressing the issue. We do not under any circumstance "avoid" our duty to our clients.

Beware! This company takes your money and never provides service. We have been waiting three days for a furnace issue. They never answer the phone, it goes to voice mail. Now I ask you, what reputable company does that? Our house is freezing, it could cause our pipes to burst if it gets cold enough. One woman gave me the name & phone # of the Heating Company they called to placed a service call. When I contacted this company, the owner of the heating company told me they were not in contract with this company. He said they sent him an application to become an approved contractor. Meanwhile we are here without heat. We are seniors, money is tight but I guess we have to hire a... Read More

Client Services of American Home Guard Home Warranty
Hi Carolyn, The nature of your claim was indeed an urgent matter due to lack of heat in your home. After review of our phone records, it indicates that any time you have called us, we have had representatives available nights, weekends and at all times to take your call. We find it hard to believe that a contractor would tell you that they are not in contract with our company or that an application is pending prior to his dispatch to you. Your initial claim for your furnace resulted in your informing us that your furnace was 'now working'. We had followed up with a response via email that your claim was closed. It seemed that your unit was intermittently working and not working thus resulting in the difficulty to diagnosis it. Our claims department put forward all efforts to assist you with your claim with hopes to provide it with the necessary repairs. Since then, we have addressed all issues you have and look forward to providing you with service for the next issue that may arise. Wishing you and yours a Happy holiday season and New Year! Sincerely, American Home Guard
