American Home Guard's reputation has taken a turn for the worse this year, yet they remain a popular option among consumers and continue to receive consistently positive customer feedback on independent online review sites.

Coverage - 8 / 10

American Home Guard offers straightforward, transparent coverage plans for systems, appliances, or both. They also extend optional coverage for such items as pools or spas, sprinkler systems, roof leaks, well pumps, and septic tanks. AHG has a per-item benefit limit of $500 for heating and cooling equipment for the first three months of coverage, which increases to $2,000 after that initial period. Similarly, their benefit limit per appliances, plumbing, and electrical starts out at $150 and increases to $500 after the first three months. Although coverage amounts are limited during the initial coverage period, their repair and replacement allowance is quite generous when compared to that of similar providers, making them an excellent option for homeowners looking to get the most out of their dollar.

Reputation - 8.8 / 10

American Home Guard is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau or is a member of the NHSCA. On January of 2017, the BBB identified a pattern of complaints against business and requested information from them regarding the matter. Although AHG responded to the BBB's request, they failed to address the underlying problems causing discontent among their customers and were given the lowest possible rating. In spite of everything, American Home Guard maintains a high Trustpilot score and enjoys many more positive reviews than negative ones on the Better Business Bureau website.

Beware! This company takes your money and never provides service. We have been waiting three days for a furnace issue. They never answer the phone, it goes to voice mail. Now I ask you, what reputable company does that? Our house is freezing, it could cause our pipes to burst if it gets cold enough. One woman gave me the name & phone # of the Heating Company they called to placed a service call. When I contacted this company, the owner of the heating company told me they were not in contract with this company. He said they sent him an application to become an approved contractor. Meanwhile we are here without heat. We are seniors, money is tight but I guess we have to hire a... Read More

Hi Carolyn, The nature of your claim was indeed an urgent matter due to lack of heat in your home. After review of our phone records, it indicates that any time you have called us, we have had representatives available nights, weekends and at all times to take your call. We find it hard to believe that a contractor would tell you that they are not in contract with our company or that an application is pending prior to his dispatch to you. Your initial claim for your furnace resulted in your informing us that your furnace was 'now working'. We had followed up with a response via email that your claim was closed. It seemed that your unit was intermittently working and not working thus resulting in the difficulty to diagnosis it. Our claims department put forward all efforts to assist you with your claim with hopes to provide it with the necessary repairs. Since then, we have addressed all issues you have and look forward to providing you with service for the next issue that may arise. Wishing you and yours a Happy holiday season and New Year! Sincerely, American Home Guard

Hi Sherry, A claims specialist explained that your monthly payment was due at the time of your call, while addressing your request to file a claim. You were under the impression that you were able to transfer a previous month's payment to the next month because you believed that if you haven't used the previous month for a service/ claim that it would be transferable to the following month. If that was the case, one can conclude that your premium would be equal to the (1) payment you submitted towards your plan. A 30 day waiting period is standard in the home warranty industry prior to filing any claim from the date of purchase which leads us to believe that you have had this issue prior to purchasing your home warranty with us. Our billing department had issued you a refund for your (1) monthly payment as per your request. We want to wish you a Happy holiday season and New Year. Sincerely, American Home Guard

I solicited American Home Guard for a home warranty prior to the close of my new home. I called the number listed on the company's online website. I spoke with sales person Joe Williams concerning a possible home warranty policy purchase. I did not purchase right away, only receieved a few quotes and explained I would call back if I chose his company for the policy. He provided quotes including "add ons" such as well pump, water softener, & a chlorination system. we ended the call. he proceeded to call my phone day in and out until finally selling me a policy including coverage of the chlorination system. he charged me $750 for 24 months with 6 months free. he never sent a copy of... We are happy to respond accordingly to "Emily" in addressing the issues that have been experienced. Be assured that we at American Home Guard value and appreciate all of our clients for which we cover throughout the United States. We respond accordingly in a timely and professional manner to address every concern as it is presented to us and find it highly unusual that you would take the time to submit such a review months after the experience for which you were completely reimbursed as it was your decision to cancel the policy within our 30-day money-back guarantee time frame. We kindly extend profuse apologies to you for any inconvenience that may have been caused in regard to your recent experience with American Home Guard and appreciate that you have taken the time to express your concerns. It is a valuable tool for us in the training of our employees. With respect to your concern in regard to our Sales Team handling your request to purchase a policy with us, we have thoroughly reviewed the recorded conversations. We understand the situation at the time was one in which you had yet to complete the settlement on the property that was intended to be covered under this warranty. It is clear that due to your hesitation we offered the best possible plan tailored to your specific needs at the proposed residence with all the discounts that were available to you. Within that time frame our Underwriting Department was not given appropriate time to prepare and send out the policy documents to you as you chose to cancel. This transaction was fully refunded on October 5, 2016 in the total amounts that were billed/charged to your credit card. We have no intention to "scam" as you stated; we have been in business for quite a number of years with millions of policies sold throughout the US and are highly regarded in the industry. It is kindly requested of you to clarify that in your review. Each and everyone of our clients, customers, vendors and affiliates are very important to us and we do our utmost to treat everyone with respect in taking care to handle all requests as they are brought to our attention. We follow through to the best of our capabilities in keeping all satisfied with the services we provide within the terms and conditions of the Plans that we offer. Best regards,

I recently switched to American home after a bad experience with my previous provider. I used them once in 6 months for my air conditioner. Turns out the compressor was completely shot. They replaced it and got it running on no time.

I call in a claim on my dryer and I was given the run around for 2 days, a week later the company was still trying to find a contractor. I was given a contractors number , I called him and he stated that he was not coming because he have had problems receiving his pay for service in the past. I finally got feed up with this mess and call Sears to fix my dryer. When I tried to cancel my contract they tell me its a 75.00 cancellation fee which is in the fine print. So American Home Guard charge me a 75.00 fee for not handling their end of the bargain. I would suggest you stay away from this home warranty company.

This will confirm that American Home Guard was able to secure a service technician dispatched for the policy holder within 48 hours of the claim submission for the clothes dryer to be checked. The policy holder chose to refuse the scheduled appointment and decided to handle the situation on their own. Subsequently the policy holder submitted a request to cancel the home warranty policy with American Home Guard, at which time was beyond the 30-day money back guarantee time frame. The policy holder signed the purchase agreement which clearly indicates all terms and conditions as we do not have "fine print". This will conclude that American Home Guard has followed through with our responsibility according to the product we offer. We value, appreciate and respect our client requests and do our very best to address any issues that arise as they are presented to us.

09-14-16 Today, I decided to obtain a "home warranty contract" with American Home Guard. I spoke with a Salesman by the name of Joe. I informed him that I wanted a monthly payment plan and if I liked the services I receive in the future then I would pay for future services on an annual basis. Joe decided to process a charge of $125 instead of the $58 that I approved for the monthly services. I mentioned monthly payments twice. So therefore, I decided not to go forward with the contract.

Dear Ms. Ballenger, In response to this review, any charges that may have been billed was immediately voided the same day of the sales call. Our Sales Team undergoes comprehensive training with quarterly review sessions as situations and circumstances are constantly changing. After an extensive review of your telephone conversation with our sales representative, it was clearly explained to you that you were signing up with our flex payment option which ultimately extended a better rate per year. After the charge was voided you were informed of the option to pay for a monthly plan at your preference, even though it was the same day and your card was yet charged. It was your decision to cancel the agreement prior to receiving any documentation or service from us. We are more than happy to have you on board as a client and hope that you may consider signing up with us in the future. We do our best to offer plans that are specifically tailored to the individual needs of the home owner. We have the best pricing in the industry as we have an extensive nation-wide network of affiliates, technicians, vendors and service providers to address every possible need or issue that may arise. We are also able to offer a variety of discounts to our clients depending on the time of purchase for example holiday specials and coupons, or if they are members of AAA, AARP or have military service. Thank you for your interest in American Home Guard.

My realtor provided me with American Home Guard policy. I was a little cautious at first because I wanted AHS or even Secure Home Warranty but now I could not be happier. I had a problem with my heating system and they came out same day
