Generali scored high with us because, as travel insurers go, they offer some of the most comprehensive coverages, highest payout maximums, and many additional policy features other providers don't.

All standard trip interruption and cancelation reasons are provided for, and then some. Additionally, the company has generous provisions for baggage and trip delays. Generali really shines when it comes to its traveler assistance services.

Along with all the usual customer assistance features, the company also makes provision for such things as specialty food delivery, an emergency cash advance of $500, and travel companion meet and greet services. Pound for pound, one of the most extensive offerings out there.

Generali Global Assistance Plans & Coverage

Generali offers some of the highest payout maximums in travel insurance coverage of the plans we evaluate.

The company will cover up to a whopping $250,000 max for medical care, and up to $1 million for emergency medical transportation. There are three plan levels that, aside from a few items, only differ in maximum payouts for certain coverages.

The Standard (cheapest) plan only differs in that it won't provide reimbursement for sporting equipment damage or delay, and only provides accidental death & dismemberment coverage if injured in an air flight accident.

Generali also stands out in the trip interruption/cancellation category. They will reimburse up to 175% the cost of the trip due to trip interruption, and also provide a generous $1,000 travel delay reimbursement. If you purchase the premium plan, the coverage kicks in after a mere 6-hour delay.

Generali, unique among travel insurers, also provides trip cancelation coverage in the event of sickness/death of a service animal. In addition to all the standard trip cancellation reasons, the company also includes coverage if you are unable to get a vaccination necessary for travel, and coverage if you have to cancel due to notification of a successful organ match.

Some additional coverages of note include optional rental care damage coverage, up to $10,000 to transport a companion to your bedside if you are under emergency medical care, and reimbursement for unauthorized use of credit cards.

This is the most unethical insurance company who is crossing the boundary of BAD FAITH. They lied about sending the medical record request to my healthcare facility in order to proceed the claim. I checked medical records for multiple days and no show that Generali Travel Insurance sent any medical record request. When I made an inquiry with the claim processor and demanded a mail receipt that he sent the medical record request, he said he couldn't do it. This demonstrates the dishonesty and motive of undue delay claim processing to test claimant's patience as way to discourage claimant to continue. I didn't want to call anyone, just wanted to book online. However, your site is NOT intuitive, and the way to actually book a plan is buried at the bottom of the page. You should have a CLEAR button at the TOP of the page saying ""PURCHASE PLAN HERE" Ended up having to call.... which was a waste of both my time and your money (to pay for staff) Person I spoke with was very helpful and patient.

You have to get a quote to purchase travel insurance as the price is based on the parameters of your trip. Based on your feedback we will look for other ways to make this more clear in the future.

Customer service rep was rude. Their website says Covid at home tests are accepted, but she said they are not, without any apology.

As you mentioned our website does state some Covid testing guidelines: “To qualify for COVID-19 sickness coverage, your at-home test must meet certain requirements: - The test must be a viral test and have Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). You can view a list of approved nucleic acid amplification tests (NAAT) and a list of approved antigen tests. -The testing must include a telehealth video call during which someone authorized by the manufacturer supervises the testing procedure in real time. - The telehealth provider must issue a report confirming the patient’s identity, the name of the laboratory or healthcare entity, the type of test and the specimen collection date.” Please reach out to us at marketing_ecommerce@generalitravelinsurance.com as we'd like to be able to review your claim. I have been unable to start a claim. The online form didn't work. I tried repeatedly. The most recent time it said my contract number and email was NOT in the system. I have been trying for days to get assistance. If I were out of the country with an emergency, I can't imagine what I'd do. I tried ALL numbers. The service is non existent. I plan to review on various sites such as Trip Advisor and Rick Steves to warn people off. I am also contacting my trip organizer to have her remove you from recommended trip insurance.

My purchase of my plan was excellent, until I received my plan and it eliminated the last cancellation feature of the plan. This was a surprise to me, as it was not stated in the site as I made my selections. I called and talked to an associate and was advised this was due to my acquiring my plan after the period of initial deposit. My trip took time to plan and evolve, so I did not realize this requirement existed. I do not expect to cancel my plan for no reason, as that feature appears to address, but I think that point should be better explained on the web site during ordering. Like other travel insurance sites, we do not offer Cancel for Any Reason coverage beyond 24-hours of the initial deposit date. Within the /choose-a-plan page we ask for the Initial Deposit Date so that we can ensure that it is not able to be added if you are not within the applicable window. We also have a large red warning box that states “To add cancel for any reason to this product, your policy purchase date (today) must be prior to or within 24 hours of initial deposit date.” We will continue to monitor user feedback and adjust our warning if others have trouble with it.
