Overall Rating: 5.2 / 10 (Average)

Despite their industry-forward policies, HSA's home warranty service has some elements for concern. For instance, despite its high term limit its appliance cap is unusually low, especially for the price of their most basic contract. Having said that, if generous term limits, midrange service fees, and “the nation’s largest network of professional contractors” are a priority, then HSA may be a good fit.

Contract & Price - 6 / 10

HSA's starting price of $589 for a 12-month contract, makes them the most expensive base-level option on the market. While an exact quote can be generated via an online calculator, we strongly recommend that potential policyholders thoroughly read all the fine print. Once a policy has been activated it is irreversible, since HSA does not offer any sort of cancellation or money-back policies.

Cancellation Policy

The warranty is non-cancelable by either party except for the following: A. The contract fees are not paid. B. Fraud or misrepresentation of facts material to the issuance of this contract. C. If the contract provides coverage for the seller during the listing period and the listing is withdrawn or expires. Should the contract be cancelable under the laws of the state where the contract holder resides, an allowable administrative fee will be charged upon cancellation. HSA may, at its option, decline to issue any renewal or cancel any contract, if the contract fees are not paid within 10 days of the due date.

With their claim of “the nation’s largest network of professional contractors”, HSA aims to provide quick, efficient service. Their service fees range between $75-$100, with no waiting period. Their 30-day recall period, as well as not requiring maintenance records, reflect the company’s wish to make their services easily accessible. Under certain circumstances, HSA’s 24/7 claims department may approve the use of a contractor that operates outside of their network.

6 weeks after we moved into our (HSA warranty covered) home, our air conditioner stopped working for about a day. And, before we realized we were covered by home warranty, we contacted a local HVAC company who came out and told us the coil has a leak and needs replaced. So, when we remembered we were covered, we contacted HSA. When the HSA HVAC guy came, he agreed there is a leak and the coil needs to be replace. However, he stated he was instructed by HSA to patch it, not fix it. And, now after we paid the $100 deductible, he won't even patch it because the first HVAC guy topped off the liquid. So, when/if it breaks down again (after a year), we'll have to pay the $5,000 out of our own... Read More

This has to be one of the worst home warranties out there. They use off the wall contractors and don't stand behind them. They don't relay information to the contractors as needed. Be prepared for a simple repair to take three to four days. You will lose more money taking off work and waiting around, let alone the hour or two on phone just to try and make appointments. Run, don't walk to someone else.

Absolutely dissatisfied with company. It’s been 24 hours and my repair hasn’t even been assigned for repair. I am going to lose all of the food in my refrigerator and HSA does not cover loss of food. I was on hold for over 40 minutes to find out that 24 hours after filing my claim online that it had not even been assigned. They cannot even give me an estimate of when it will get to the repair company.

Im a Realtor and the company I was with has a partnership with HSA. Two of my clients purchased an HSA Home Warranty for $670 each. In my years in the industry, I or previous clients had any issues with other home warranty companies until now. HSA has denied to repair the items that are part of the warranty. Mind you I read all fine prints and my clients do as well as I advice them, and asks lots of questions from fine print so there are no surprises. In both cases, HVCA that are covered by warranty has been denied and there is nothing in the fine print. It seems that their contractor are trained to say its not covered making things up that are not true. We have had second opinions from... Read More
