Our Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

Contract & Price - 5 / 5

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Choice Home Warranty is a BAD choice. I was without AC for about a week and a half. I am so upset, I could just spit! I was assigned a tech and when he didn't show, I called the company and was told that CHW does NOT make their appointments. I wasn't even ON the schedule. They said CHW should have TOLD ME that I needed to call and set the appointment. (They didn't) So, I got an email that from CHW that they were RESCHEDULED for TWO DAYS LATER by CHW. (I called MYSELF, just in case…and it was confirmed!) So, when they didn't show THAT day, I called and was told that my claim WAS REASSIGNED BY CHW FOR THE FOLLOWING WEEK! WHY? WHO AUTHORIZED THAT? REALLY? THE FOLLOWING... Read More

We have used other home warentees this one is by far the worst. We have several properties and used choice as a trial for a year as the fees were lower and the call out fee less. Do not be tempted to use them. They do not cover any real thing. Did not cover a penny for ac repair said mine was old and corroded so no covering at all. They did fix a doorbell and balance a ceiling fan. But pretty much they are denying all they can.

I wanted to try a new warranty company and thought this would be a great fit for me , however I’ve been having AC issues for a month the first time I called them was 5/29/ 18 because my unit was not cooling correctly so they sent out a tech they fixed it for the moment then on 6/24/18 I started to have the same problem again. So I called they rescheduled me another tech four days later who never showed up so after calling them with the complaint they sent out the same tech from the first time. However the tech did figure out what was wrong with the unit he tried to get authorization for the work never got a response in a good time frame so he left to go to another job. So they finally... The company came to my house a day early, no problem. After replacing a part on my A/C I told them two of the A/C vents was not cooling like it should. He said the duck work could be bent I ask would he check for me. He said I don't have a work so I can't check it. He told me I should call and report it. If I continue to have this problem please don't send the same people out.

This is the most crooked operation i have ever came in contact with. I tried on two major issue occasions to file claims and both times was screwed in the end. one was for a central a/c unit the other was my fridge. If you think this is a good idea don’t. If you read all there fine prints you will never get nothing out of them let alone a new item even though they say that we will replace if it can’t be fixed. Oh wait a part isn’t available no more we will give you a check for the average between cost and labor ($430). i don’t know who can buy a new fridge with that. Oh wait my fridge for the least expensive model is $7600. My A/C went out and the sent a tech, oh hey there is low... Read More

Contacted Choice at 15:15 hrs on Tuesday 6/26/18 when I discovered Garbage Disposal was spewing water out of bottom of unit. Spoke with "Rachell", explained problem and she scheduled a plumber to come out the next morning between 07:00 and 11:00. Very quick service, well handled, professional, and friendly. Amigo plumbing arrived at 13:00 after 2 calls advising they would be late. After "Eddy" arrived they did replace the Disposal in 20 minutes after a $45 service call charge. Replacement done quickly with an equivalent disposal. So far so good. No complaints. Now in process of having the boxes under sink replaced through my Home Owners Insurance Policy.
