Our Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

Contract & Price - 5 / 5

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Sadly we have had a terrible experience with choice home warranty. They don't make emergencies a priority and they rarely compensate on any claims. I have heard from their own contractors that they don't like working with Choice and I can now see why. We have been without A/C for 12 days and they keep giving us the run around and not wanting to help get the problem fixed quickly. They keep dragging their feet about getting the job done. I have a 5 month old daughter who is suffering in the heat and getting heat rashes and I had to buy a window a/c because choice can't quickly do what is needed to repair the unit. I also have had multiple other claims that weren't resolved and I had to pay... Read More

The tech did not understand the English language. He was told 5 times that the service fee was waiver and still did not understand that. A job that should have took 1 hour took 2.25 hours which impacted me. He could not understand that Choice was paying the service fee. I had to call in several times to get stuff done. Also he did not understand how bearing work in a blower motor. I showed him that it is worn and he kept stating but you cannot hear it. Also showed him that the blower motor was dirty from the oil from the motor. The blower motor will fail and this will cause us to be without AC in the hot Texas summer. I brought the warranty to prevent this kind of thing happening. I had... Read More

I talked to Frances when I called - it was my intention to sign up right away and I told him that. I wanted to sign on for 1 month initially - I explained to him (several times) that was all I could pay for right now. He pushed 1 year payment and then 3 years, I said no over and over and over again but he persisted and became defensive. Finally after going several rounds with this obnoxious man I hung up on him. Apparently he took it upon himself to go ahead and charge me - for 1 month - even though we did not have a firm meeting of the minds about what I expected. Pretty damned cheeky - or he's a thief. However this is what I asked for all along - 1 month to pay now, so I'll let the... Read More

I purchased a contract from Choice Warranty and four months later my A/C went out so I contacted their customer service which sent out a representative that affirmed I needed a new unit however they made an attempt to make it seem as if it was a preexisting problem however i reminded them the unit was over twenty years has been serviced on a regular basis but they refused to replace the unit. I did at the cost of over $10,000 out of my pocket. All I can say is buyer be ware.

The repair tech was very thorough in his work also very conscience about not messing up floor and extremely polite but the issue is not resolved because we are fearful of the appliance because it stopped working without warning and showed signs of burning the mother broad we would not feel comfortable with the mother broad being replaced and would rather have the appliance replaced

really cant give good opinon yet issue not done yet. But the tech you sent acted like my concerns was meaning less. And I just don't know how to use propane stove. You can see were insulation in stove is burnt. It smokes like a freight train, and it not dirty inside for it to smoke like it does. On washer he acts like just to throw parts at it because he likes that brand of washer. I don't agree with that. It not his basement to get water in it if he is wrong. I want to believe choice warranty I bought is a good company and it just service tech that came out. I hope my thoughts are right. Thank you Nikki Mottinger Angola IN
