Our Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

We have been dealing with the same issue for months. I'm on hold for 45 minutes to well over an hour every time I need to call. Virtually nothing is covered under this warranty. You submit a valid claim and they never cover it. Save your money. This company is terrible.

I normally have a pretty good experience with Choice Home Warranty. When I have a covered item failure or malfunction, Choice Home Warranty is there to help and the issue is resolved quickly, however; a recent service call was made and it took nearly three months to incorrectly get resolved. I had three different technicians diagnose three different issues. And in the end I ended up paying out of my pocket. The Supervisor was not very considerate and a little rude I had to go 3 months without a washing machine and go to the laundromat spending over $125 a month. The amount the supervisor offered me barely help my repairs. And I was told that the issues was my fault. I'm very unhappy... Read More

On Friday 7/6 you assigned me to Burrows & Company. But some guy called Dexter showed up. I assumed he was from Burrows. He had no idea what he was doing. He said he'd be back Monday to complete A/C fix. I never saw him again. On Monday I called him & left him text, No replies. I called Burrows 3 times. No replies. I called Choice. Spoke to a guy. He called both Burrows & Dexter & got no reply -then I got disconnected & he did not call me back. Tuesday I called Choice again. Spoke to a lady & had bad connection. She said to hang up & she'd call me back. She never called. Later called Choice again & spoke to Dakota. First intelligent Choice person I spoke to. She said she had no idea who... Read More

I had choice 3 or 4 years, I renewed my contract and one week before renewal was to take effect, A/C breaks down. Their tech gave me the report saying compressor locked and told them poor maintenance, although I had all the records for every year. I had 2nd opinion and Choice agreed to pay for replacing the system, except they then forwarded my call to the next dept for approval that didn't end being forwarded , eventually coming back to the original dept with a 10 min 11 sec +/- hold each time. After an hour and a half on the Choice line with the A/C company, the A/C company gave up saying they couldn't afford to sit on hold and I paid out of pocket. They are cheap coverage and... Very dissatisfied and disappointed with their service. Their plans dont cover what they say they do, and if you get ahold of someone to ask, they will bounce you around to multiple departments, half telling you one thing the other half telling another. I will not use them again and suggest you don't either.

Choice Home Warranty is the absolute worst home warranty company in existence. Usually I read reviews and someone just had a bad experience and torches the company for it. Well let me tell you I have not just me but 3 other people I know with same experience as me. HORRIBLE. Beware of low price you get what you pay for. They take 40 minutes to answer every call. They deny most claims as 2 AC companies told me they’ve never done work for them because they deny everything. I have 3 friends that experienced same thing with them and did not get their money back. Don’t do it. Go with someone else I promise you will be unhappy w them. They are also very pushy and rude. They said my... Read More

You'd better have 20+ minutes when you try to call for service, and you will have to call. Choice prefers to never answer the phone. They have a very low limit on what they will pay for replacement parts (never OEMs), so they then offer you 2 cents on the dollar to replace your appliance...a windfall for them and a financial disaster for you. Choice's business model is a total scam on the customer. I can't believe I fell for this.

It was difficult getting a hold of someone in order to submit my claim. I tried to call a couple of different times before getting through. I had to hang up because the hold time was so long and I had to be somewhere. One the claim was submitted, it took a very long time to get someone to come out and look at the issue. Once the contractor arrived and identified the issue it took him almost an hour to get approval from CHW to do the repair. This created an extremely uncomfortable environment. I would have given a poor score, but the workmanship and professionalism of the contractor were amazing.
