Our Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

Contract & Price - 5 / 5

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Just had my AC unit repair for the low, contracted service cost on a 95 degree day. Grateful for the prompt, courteous and easy process of getting this fixed!

I have had Choice for a long time and in 2 states. Lately the service and the communication about the service has declined. I put in a claim for my AC not cooling on July 2nd. I live in South Georgia and that is a BIG problem. I got an e-mail saying that they were having a hard time finding a vendor (or something along those lines) but that they would keep trying. I kept trying to call but would be on hold for 15 - 20 minutes and I hung up. FIVE days later I called and sat on hold for over 30 minutes. They told me that they had set up an appointment with someone on July 20th! That was 13 days away!!I finally got them to give me the phone number for the vendor and I called him. He... Read More

You can't say you cover AC's and then have some small print about 'no rust on the coil'. ALL coils that are over probably 2 or 3 years are steal and they rust......therefore, they aren't covered. You should stipulate that upfront. Also, during the R22 freon conversion, you should stipulate upfront how much that costs. ALSO, YOU NEED TO COVER THE 'LEAK TEST'!!!!! With my great choice warranty, I just paid $150 for a leak test, $45 for a visit fee, and $6,500 for a whole new system. All the while being hot for over two weeks.

I have been with CHOICE for more than one year, my ac went off on Friday early morning and I called CHOICE around noon, and in a few hours I had an appointment to have an technician for Monday afternoon, when I told them I had 87 degrees inside of the house with all the ceiling fans blasting, being an elderly person I was suffering terribly they made the appointment for the morning of Monday. It was the worse 3 days weekend of my life with the heat and humidity, Monday I had Just Cooling coming in the person of Anthony who fixed the unit. Thank God for when I made my contract with CHOICE.

I am not happy with the company that was hired to do the work 2 weeks had passed and still no updates on parts or new service day also they took 2 fees to check the items needing services and tech put finding in over a week later I think they need a new service company also the current one never answer the phone this not a issue with choice but if you use a trash company that make you look back as well

Dear Craig Bray, We strive to provide the best customer experience, therefore, we regret to hear that you had a less than satisfactory experience with our technician. We have applied a onetime free service call fee onto your policy, in hopes that your next experience with Choice Home Warranty meets your expectations. Kind Regards, CHW

When I was sold this policy I was lied to & told that if a covered item, in this case 2 Ceiling Fans, wasn't able to be repaired it would be place with a comparable type product. Imagine my surprise when I was told that I was entitled to only "Builder Grade" ceiling fans and that I was being sent $140 for BOTH FANS! This is beyond unacceptable; just WHERE do "builders" buy fans that cost only $70? I cannot believe that a company as well known as CHW get away with these kind of practices and in my opinion are "comparable" to Scam Artists.
