America's 1st Choice Home Club Review

Headquartered in Marietta, GA, America’s 1st Choice (AFC) Home Club was established by a group of professionals with experience in the home protection field. The company operates in all 50 states and offers sellers, buyers and agents a simple way of protecting homes from costly system and appliance breakdowns. AFC Home Club has a large contractor network and three coverage plans to help you get the protection your home needs. America’s 1st Choice Home Club also offers coverage for old homes and does not require prior inspection.

Plan Value

Premium and Deductible

AFC Home Club offers three levels of coverage that are slightly different than your typical systems/appliance/combo plans. Their three plans are Bronze, Silver and Gold. The Bronze plan covers some of the more high price, heavy duty systems in your home and nothing else. The Silver plan covers mainly appliances with some systems, and the Gold plan covers everything. According to our research their average premium hovers around $440, but you will have to get an accurate quote for one of these three plans directly from the company. The service fee you will pay the technician is only $60 per visit, which is on the low end of the spectrum.

Caps

AFC Home Club puts an annual aggregate cap of $7,500 on their policy per contract year. So this is the limit they will pay out on any system, appliance or combination of claims. In addition, the company also has a few other caps on individual items like  water heater, electrical systems, garbage disposal, and garage door opener.

Customer Experience

AFC Home Club has a more or less even split of positive and negative reviews across most of the relevant websites. For home warranty companies, that puts them a bit above the middle of our list in terms of customer satisfaction.* They are also consistently rated in the top five HW companies by independent 3rd party sites. AFC Home Club is BBB accredited and has a grade of B.

Specific coverage limits are not always spelled out in AFC Home Club's contract, leaving us to assume the $7,500 aggregate cap applies to all items not otherwise stated to have a limit. The company features the standard 30 day waiting period from purchase to when coverage begins. AFC will only pay $150 maximum for any claim made within the first 30 days after the waiting period. 

AFC Home Club's cancellation policy is probably the most straightforward of all the home warranty companies we looked at. Within the first 30 days you can cancel for a full refund. Afterward, you'll pay a $50 fee and receive a refund less any claims paid.

Restrictions

By restrictions we are talking about the reasons a home warranty company will not cover a specific system or appliance. This is usually listed in the contract fine print as parts of a given appliance or system not covered, or reasons/circumstances a given appliance or system is not covered.

AFC's contract restrictions are clear, not misleading and easy to understand. They are excessive at points, particularly when it comes to AC and Heating systems but this is to be expected. All items are subject to exclusions of some kind. Also, the company has a rather strict policy when it comes to the maintenance records of AC, heating systems, and tankless water heaters. AFC requires you to furnish annual maintenance records for these items or they will not pay the claim. 

Contractor Network

AFC Home Club maintains an extensive, licensed and qualifies contractor network in all 50 states. The company uses local service providers that are established in their own communities. In this case, the contractor is often already known to the homeowner, having already made use of their services.

AFC Home Club operates nationwide and has solid coverage for both home systems and appliances that will protect you from costly breakdowns. Zero deductibles and a high limit of liability makes them a cost-effective choice for helping you keep the costs of maintaining your home within reach.

I called them as my first service call, a problem with the garbage disposal, and they said they don't send a technician for that, advice me to buy a new one pay for installation and they would send a &100 check which it only covered a fraction of it, food grinder is $275 + $150 installation. Second time I called about my microwave oven, they surprised with " my built in microwave is not covered in the policy, right after I paid for the so call "GOLD PLAN" for the whole year. They simply didn't have me covered, I tried to get a refund!, nope... not that easy...

Nothing is covered - everything is excluded in the fine print. Had 2 issues recently, one plumbing issue with main line to the road and a washing machine main part (wouldn't work without it) that was "on the excluded part list". Not worth the money or aggravation.

I had a problem with my microwave oven(Built in not free standing) and was first told not covered. When I called back to complain, they did send me a check which I thought was satisfactory (microwave was 13 years old but in great shape). I truly think they thought it was a free standing model. sears home warranty is a big fraud.they are always late , they sometimes fix part of the problem so they come one more time and collect 60 more dollars for the visit. I've been waiting for more than 2 wks for them to respond to my last claim.

Called AFC to get a quote, since my former warranty company, First American raised their rate a couple hundred dollars and their visit is higher now, too. Received excellent service from Adrian and based on the rates and coverage I signed up with AFC.

I called many companies before agreeing on a plan with America's 1st Choice. The man on the phone (RG Shorter based on his email) promised me something different than what was listed on the package I received later. When I called to get the issue resolved, I was transferred three times, intimidated, and hung up on after being told I must send them a letter in writing to receive a refund of my fully paid three year plan. These people are liars and crooks, which is the last thing us home owners need to deal with when things go wrong in our home.

Although it was holiday weekend (New Year's), AFC contacted the service company and the company Air 3000 got a technician out the same day. It was important as we head guests staying in the area serviced by that a/c unit. Thank you for the quick response.

I thought this company was the right choice but I was mistaken. They will only repair, not replace un-fixable items. Also, they promised a monthly restaurant card that came exactly 1 time. Needless to say, I was very disappointed with them. I cancelled my membership.
