Overall Rating: 4.7 / 5 (Excellent)

American Home Shield's coverage is among the most comprehensive we've seen in the industry. The company covers considerably more appliances and systems than its competitors and has fewer coverage limitations.

The company recently updated its plans—they now have three to simplify choosing the right one for your home. American Home Shield focuses on the repairs that offer the most value to consumers, removing items that are inexpensive to replace, increasing its coverage limits on appliances in its most expensive plan to reflect today's higher-priced, "gourmet" appliances, and adding roof leak coverage.

Coverage Options - 4.7 / 5

American Home Shield offers consumers a choice of three plans, following a good-better-best model. Its ShieldSilver plan warrants systems only, but can be amended with certain add-ons, including pools, electronics, and guest houses. Its ShieldGold plan covers a range of systems and appliances, again with add-on options. Its ShieldPlatinum plan covers everything in the ShieldGold plan, plus roof leaks up to $1500 and some routine maintenance services. These include free HVAC tune-ups, unlimited top ups on your AC refrigerant, coverage for code violations including permits.

All told, American Home Shield covers 23 systems and appliances, considerably more than most of their competitors, and fully covers 11 of those items. There is no limit on the number of claims a customer can file over the year’s contract, either.

Contract & Price - 5 / 5

American Home Shield has a flexible pricing policy and offers three different coverage plans and two trade service call fee levels: $100 and $125.

This allows consumers to have input into the annual price based on their budgetary needs.

We requested a quote for a single family home under 5,000 square feet located in a medium-sized midwestern city. The minimum annual premium (Shield Silver Plan) was $59.99 per month. The maximum premium (Shield Platinum Plan) was $109.99. So AHS prices are somewhat higher than many competitive plans. Consumers should note that their final price will vary by plan, service call charge selected, and location.

Worst third world customer service ever. Speak almost no English. Match you with companies that have no clue and are dangerous to you and your family. Companies that no one in their right mind would hire.

Do NOT get 2-10 home warranty. I was told by company they sent that the claim was denied due to "improper installation". When I spoke with 2-10 they said improper installation was covered under the warranty but it was not improper installation. THEY DID NOT EVEN HAVE A COPY OF THE TECHNICIAN"S SERVICE ORDER so when I said a thermostat was bad they related they did not know that but it wasn't covered because it went to the damper control board. What do they think a thermostat does!!!

Well first off you try to call them for a service and it takes 20 minutes to get someone on the phone so they will say, you should just make a claim online. Well their online claims are bull crap because you can't explain anything, I literally just had to click sump pump even though I would have told them it was an external sump if I could have. I even checked my contract to make sure external sump pumps were covered. And under plumbing it said sump pumps were covered, however right below the covered items are the NOT COVERED items and I read through those and nothing was stated about the external sump pump not being covered. However we finally get the plumbers out and they say American... Read More

AHS gets a 1 rating because they do not always listen to my concerns, they use sub- standard contractors who don't always know what they are doing and behave arrogantly when they show up for the service call. Whenever I call you about a problem, your phone agents talk like they don't know what they are doing, either. Phone skills are lacking because they have not been properly trained but just quickly put into the phone queue. AHS, you are not the best. But could be ... Vet your contractors for quality and character. Stop just taking our money and sending out mediocre-to- bad workers.

Not too happy right now. I’m 75 and when my a/c went out I was left in 95 degree weather for about two weeks. They are working on it now, but who knows if it will actually work for more than a day or two

In April I called AHS to cancel my warranty contract that I had on the house I was selling. I told them I was closing on the 30th and no longer required coverage starting in May. They said they cancelled my contract and removed my payment details so it wouldn’t auto draw, and I didn’t have anything to worry about anymore. In May I received a bill in the mail from AHS for a monthly contract payment being past due. I immediately contacted them about the bill and informed them that I had called in April and cancelled the contract. The individual on the phone told me that the amount due was for the month of April and that they bill for coverage at the end of the month. She also stated that... Read More

NEVER AGAIN! STAY AWAY! We are suffering in triple digit heat with a baby and an 80 year old vet with cancer because these bozos at this company can't get their act together. We have been lied to and mistreated. One week with no AC and they still can't give us information or get the parts to get it fixed. STAY AWAY from this company. We are STILL waiting for parts to even be ordered. It's been OVER A WEEK!

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY YOU HAVE TO FIGHT TO GET SOMEONE OUT THEY HAVE A HARD TIME FINDING CONTRACTORS TO WORK WITH THEM AND THEN YOU NEED TO FIGHT TO GET THINGS COVERED AND WHEN YOU NEED TO HAVE SOMETHING REPLACED THEY DROP YOU RIGHT AFTER I HAD THEM FOR TEN YEARS AND THEY DROPPED ME AFTER REPLACING MY DISHWASHER OF ALL THINGS. MY BOSS HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN AFTER THEY HAD TO REPLACE HIS WASHER

I have had American Home Shield for over a year without incident. As soon as I called to get my AC repaired, I was assigned a company with a 1-star yelp review, bad reviews on their website, and the company that caused my neighbor thousands in damage. I called to see if I could get it changed and I was told that it would be assigned to a different contractor. 24 hours later, the original company calls me. I told them that the work order was canceled and they said they got two work orders from me and this one was active. I told them that it was supposed to be a different contractor and I'd have to call AHS to figure out what happened, but then she got all upset and wanted to know why I... Read More
