Banfield Pet Hospital is a nationwide network of over 900 pet hospitals that offers an Optimum Wellness plan instead of traditional accident and illness pet insurance.

Overall Rating: 2.3 / 5 (Average)

Banfield Pet Hospital offers an "Optimum Wellness Plan" which allows unlimited wellness visits to any of the numerous nationwide Banfield facilities.

This is a pro-active approach to identify potential problems in your dog or cat before they start.

This is indeed a great idea, but seeing as no one can predict a serious accident, at least an accident-only plan is warranted.

And since Banfield does not provide this, you'll have to get a separate plan from another carrier.

Banfield Pet Hospital Coverage

Coverage - 2.5 / 5

Banfield Pet Hospital does not offer pet insurance rather an "Optimum Wellness Plan."

This is a preventative program that covers your dog or cat for head-to-tail exams, vaccines, early screening diagnostics, consultations for proper nutrition, and dental care at any of the more than 900 Banfield locations across the US and Puerto Rico.

The wellness coverage is unparalleled protection, and also includes unlimited office visits.

However, it can run around the same price as comprehensive accident and illness policies from pet insurance providers.

Banfield operates 3 levels of wellness coverage.

Reimbursement & Deductibles

Reimbursement - 2 / 5

Similarly there is no reimbursement percentage as this is not pet insurance.

Your Banfield discount membership entitles you to 100% coverage of all the routine and preventative care associated with your plan level.

Deductibles - 3.5 / 5

There are no deductibles associated with care under Banfield's Optimum Wellness Plan, just a membership fee.

All procedures are covered 100% depending on your membership level.

Pricing: How much does Banfield Pet Hospital cost?

Cost - 2 / 5

Banfield Optimum Wellness Plans are, by and large, a little less expensive that fully comprehensive pet insurance plans that do not include wellness.

A Banfield plan may be an ideal addition to an accident only plan from another provider in order to ensure complete coverage.

What's more, it is significantly more convenient than reimbursement-model wellness plans as they will have all your info at the hospital of your choice and there will be no claim process.

My puppy was only seen by Banfield for over 10 years along with 3 hospital stays recommended by Banfield. Yet he was not diagnosed with diabetes until I asked about his excessive thirst If this happened to a human, he could lose their license.

They misdignosed my cat which ended up passing away. Now I'm stuck paying for 11 months of their wellness plan for a cat that is no longer here.

I have had the Wellness Plan at Banfield for a couple years and have taken our dog there for routine visits, Like most other reviewers, I experienced all the added charges that weren't covered under the plan. Although it was frustrating, that is just the tip of the iceberg as far as my disgust with Banfield. Less than two hours after a "routine" visit for teeth cleaning and physical my dog was crying and obviously uncomfortable. As I was petting him, I felt two large lumps in his neck. I wasn't overly concerned until the following day when my dog wouldn't stop panting. I called Banfield to schedule an appointment to bring him in and was told they had no appointments but I could come in and... Read More

Not worth the money. Then once they get you signed up you're trapped. Also, if your pet gets really sick, they will send you somewhere else and none of the expense is covered. Don't even consider this plan.

The ladies at the BANFIELD Castle Rock Colorado location were great! My senior dog ZOE received a nail trim there and they were so sweet to her and her nails look great! We'll be back :)

I see why their ratings are low. I took my dog in for her first visit. I sceduled her for teeth cleaning, worm check, and eye exam. I paid well over two hundred dollars the first visit signed up for insurance which was a nightmare. They called me and stated my account information was entered wrong to deduct my monthly payments. I gavve them the info whic the called again with the same problem. I went online. Set up the accounnt they never took payments out. I called them gave info to them told them I set the account which they confirmed. I'm getting bills for payments? I called the hosp. Where I took my dog and I was told I did now owe anything so I could drop the plan. I called to drop... Read More

Never thought I would find myself writing a review, but I feel as if I have to help others and open their eyes. On October 18th, 2016, I took my miniature schnauzer, China, to the Pembroke Pines Banfield Pet Hospital for a routine check-up. I mentioned to the front staff that her appetite had decreased, but figured it was due to her 12 years of age. They called me a few hours later to inform me that China had an infected uterus and it had to be removed or she would eventually die. I found it suspicious that her daughter, Salty, had just been there a month before her and suffered from the same condition and had to have emergency surgery to have her uterus removed as well. I payed 1,100 for... Read More

Do not ever go to this hospital. I chose this one over the ER vet because of convenience. They over charge on everything but extremely overcharge on certain things apparently. I was charged $133 for a CBC to give my dog pain meds that turned out to be anti-inflammatories. My bill was doubled by the CBC. The ER vet would have been cheaper by far.

It has been a "Nightmare!",especially financially, dealing with Banfield Wellness Pet Insurance. Back in May of 2016 I contacted Banfield to cancel my dog's wellness insurance, as it was up for renewal in June. The CSR said she would take care of it, but gave me a free month to think on it. I'm assuming, it was in the hopes I'll forget to call back within the time period, and be stuck paying for another year or decide to keep insurance for an additional year. I took advantage of our agreement and brought my dog in for a refill on her allergy medication. When I called mid July to cancel, they informed me that the appointment wasn't covered and I owed them money, even though my insurance... Read More
