Overall Rating: 4.9 / 5 (Excellent)

Select Home Warranty’s lack of a term maximum is very attractive, especially when considering their comparatively generous appliance and system limits. They do have a waiting period for service and require maintenance records, which can be off-putting to some customers. Select is an excellent choice for customers who value savings and flexibility.

This company does not want to pay anything under warranty! I have two claims that have not been paid a penny yet after at least 10 calls for each claim: one claim reported in September 2015 and another one reported in November, 2015. Now it is Mid-January, 2016. The first one they declined the claim stating it was not covered by warranty. They presented the warranty terms which were different from the contract signed by me. They finally agreed to pay up to $150 since the claim was within 3 months of warranty. Also, they will only cover up to $500 after 3 months in warranty. I do not find much value after I found all these details. I wish they had an honest business model.

Contractors were extremely hard to contact - 2 of them for different needs weren't even in business any longer. Had to have them send out serviceman for out dishwasher 2 times within a month, first person left his tools in the washer, broke a part and had to call Select to send someone else out to fix all the problems. Ended up buying a new one this winter. NOT WORTH IT !! Select refused to cover the cost of repairs for our cooling system, the contractor had to be called out 2 more times for poor workmanship (leaving trash in my attic and breaking a light fixture) Select would not refund the service charges for sending out contractors multiple times and the repairs were never made. I... Read More

If you have signed a contract with this company you will find out at the first claim that you have wasted your money or not worth . The calls are attended after at least 3 follow up. I had a heating issue and its a mechanical fault with unit and the technician claimed that its a lack of capacity of the heating unit after checking and calculating the space. The unit has served us good from 5 years that I know off. This is the reply I got from select which is the interesting part and if you understand the term and English well you will see that these guys are not ever going to spend a dime for you.I asked them for a second engineer opinion and was rejected saying I need to spend my own money... This is the worst home warranty company I have done business with. I've had four other companies before, which came with former house purchases. All were wonderful in handling problems expediently. After three months into the warranty with Select, I came home to a massive water leak from my water heater. Of course I called them immediately, and I was told that it would take up to 48 hours to respond to my claim. ?????? I'VE NEVER BEEN TOLD BY A WARRANTY COMPANY THAT IT WOULD TAKE 48 HOURS TO RESPOND TO A CLAIM! And I had water in my workshop and no hot water. It took hours on the phone with them and talking to a manager to get an expedient response. Then I found it was likely... Read More

Don't bother with this company!! I purchased a warranty for a home we did seller finance on and didn't know much about the history of the appliances. First big Snow the heater went out. They sent a tech out charged me $45.00 service fee and then when the company tried to get approval for a replacement part, they stated they don't cover it. They sent me to the section of my contact which reads as follows This Agreement does not cover any systems or appliances that have had previous repair or that require repair ment as a result of improper installation, previous repair, damage caused by any construction activity, improper wiring, inadequate or lack of capacity, power failures, power... I need service on refrigerator ice maker, and dishwasher door. I was informed on 12/14 technician would arrive 12/15 to service ice maker. The technician arrived with instructions to service dishwasher door which I received an email a week ago stating dishwasher door was not covered. Contact with representative of Select Home Warranty indicated the ice maker was not a covered item. I asked why a technician was dispatched to repair dishwasher after I had been informed dishwasher was not covered. Now I need to find a new home warranty service and wait an additional 30 days with no repairs. Select Home Warranty is a disgusting service and I have no idea why Consumer Advocate would rate that... Horrible experience with this company. Purchase two contract for two of my houses whenever I claim was made most of the time it did not covered the repairs; however, the $45 co-payment was charged inmediatetly. The subcontractor companies customer service was horrible. I only have negative things to say. Not what I expected. I am very disappointed and dissatisfied.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! HORRIBLE SERVICE AND DENY CLAIMS! I have had select for over a year now. I have filed 4 claims with with them. The first claim went exactly how it is supposed to and how every other warranty company I have ever used went. I called filed a claim they sent a tech out within 48-72 hours the tech fixed the problem and I payed my copay. After that the other claims they started to take much longer to get fixed and some never fixed at all even though my warranty covered them. My ice maker broke and it took over 2 months for them to fix it, stating the tech was having problems getting the part. My water softener timer motor went out and the tech attempted to find... After a bad experience with another Home Warranty company, I completed my due diligence with reviews and decided to go with Select Home Warranty. Just after 90 days, my water heater stopped working. And by stopped, I mean the bottom was rusted out and I lost hundreds of gallons of water before I discovered the problem. I submitted a claim and after asking for photos, they denied my claim without even sending a technician to look at the problem. Their reason? They don't cover leaks in a water heater... yea, um... duh... typically if a water heater totally fails, it leaks somewhere. Thank goodness mine was only leaking UNDER my house. Now, after my annual fall inspection, my... Read More
