Overall Rating: 1.1 / 5 (Poor)

HSA Home Warranty policies cover the warranty industry's standard list of appliances and home systems. Policies are available on an annual basis. Once you pay your premium, your policy is in full effect, with no waiting period or home inspection required. Unfortunately, the company doesn't provide a lot of specifics on the most important aspects of a home warranty policy on its website. They do not describe the variety of plans they offer, the cost of those plans, the benefit limits of their policies, or the deductibles associated with making a claim. HSA may have innovative policies, low deductibles and plan prices, great service partners, or a host of other benefits. You have to request a quote to find out.

Speaking of requesting a quote, we also have some concerns about their privacy policy. Once you submit your information to HSA —which you must do to get a quote—the company reserves the right to share your data with marketing affiliates, real estate companies, and other entities with which you might prefer not to share your information.

Contract & Price - 3 / 5

HSA's starting price of $589 for a 12-month contract, makes them the most expensive base-level option on the market. While an exact quote can be generated via an online calculator, we strongly recommend that potential policyholders thoroughly read all the fine print. Once a policy has been activated it is irreversible, since HSA does not offer any sort of cancellation or money-back policies.

HSA provides a sample contract for potential customers on its website: HSA Sample Contract

Cancellation Policy

The warranty is non-cancelable by either party except for the following: A. The contract fees are not paid. B. Fraud or misrepresentation of facts material to the issuance of this contract. C. If the contract provides coverage for the seller during the listing period and the listing is withdrawn or expires. Should the contract be cancelable under the laws of the state where the contract holder resides, an allowable administrative fee will be charged upon cancellation. HSA may, at its option, decline to issue any renewal or cancel any contract, if the contract fees are not paid within 10 days of the due date.

With their claim of “the nation’s largest network of professional contractors”, HSA aims to provide quick, efficient service. Their service fees range between $75-$100, with no waiting period. Their 30-day recall period, as well as not requiring maintenance records, reflect the company’s wish to make their services easily accessible. Under certain circumstances, HSA’s 24/7 claims department may approve the use of a contractor that operates outside of their network.

We contacted HSA at the end of July 2018 to report our septic system stopped working. This is covered in our agreement contract. HSA sent a contractor for diagnostics and repair. Diagnostics is covered under our agreement which specifically states “access, diagnosis, repair and/or replacement” are all covered. The HSA contractor replaced the pump but did not check adequate voltage was going to the pump. The pump sustained significant damage. Besides the $560 we paid to HSA, we also had to pay the HSA contractor about $2,000. Since the HSA contractor did not fix the issue and ruined a new pump, we had to pay another $2,000 to hire a different plumbing company to diagnose and fix the... Read More

Moved into a new home a month ago that included a HSA home warranty. Woke up 5-10-2019 to a basement full of water. Our first call was to HSA who instructed us to call Barker Services. To their credit, they came down in a timely manner. Perhaps, we were naïve, but since we paid them $75 for their service, we expected an outcome that would tell us from where the water was coming. Instead, he centered his investigation on our sub-pumps, which again to his credit, he rightly determined were working. Of course, that leaves us with a sizeable financial loss, an insurance decline, and most disappointing of all, no answer to the “flood.” Strangely enough, the water flow has stopped. The... My AC will not cool, just like last fall when one of their “professional” service providers “fixed” it. It happens to be Friday evening of Memorial Day weekend and their service providers cannot come out until Tuesday afternoon. I asked if the order could be expedited because it was 88 degrees in my house yesterday and was told that the temperature had to be 105 degrees or above to expedite an order to service an air conditioner. Fortunately my wife and I are in pretty good health. What if I was a senior with health issues? Will not be renewing when the contract ends.

Horrible customer service - on the phone for hours. They kept sending companies that could not fix my appliances (I finally had to hire outside companies that would fix the problem in one visit). Had them for years and then finally had to use them and now they just sent me a letter saying they are not going to renew my policy.

We contacted HSA after the power company red-tagged (turned the gas off and told us not to use it because of a gas leak) our stove. After pressuring HSA to look at our appliance earlier than 6 days after our request, the repairman came and told us there was nothing wrong with the stove. He said the smell was coming from the house being freshly painted (3 months ago!). I called the power company back and they said they had never heard of such a thing and to get a second opinion. After several attempts to contact a person, they told me they would send a second person out, but that if they had the same opinion, I would have to pay another $75 fee. Now I have been on hold for over a half an... Read More

Don't waste your money. They are useless AF. Find you another. I only approved partial reimbursement but none told me after a month, and that was the final. WTF

Customer service needs a little training. We had our furnace go out in the dead of winter and they said it could take 24-48 hours for someone to contact us regarding this issue. Called again to reiterated my issue (explaining I am in Minnesota with a -20 temperature and no heat) and they said they would expedite it. I went ahead a called a local guy and he had it up and running for $400; recommended replacing the furnace. I didn't hear back for 24 hours from HSA so good thing I called a local. HSA would no reimburse us since the company I used was not in their network. . All in all they did cover the cost of the furnace so I gave them this rating but would not reimburse the $400.

Buyer Beware! This company cannot be trusted and they do not care about their customers. You never know what it's like to deal with a company/service, until you actually go through the process. I can tell you that after going through the process of replacing my hot water tank, that I would NOT refer my clients or friends to HSA Home Warranty. According to them, they do not have to replace a "like" brand (as per Section D in your contract). I paid $450 for them to swap out my top rated AO Smith Powershot with a cheap, terribly rated Bradford White Defender. I suspect this is done so that HSA can benefit by: 1.) Buying a cheaper brand puts more $$$ in HSA pockets, and 2.)... Read More

I left a negative comment about the refusal to pay for a sump pump in our sewer system that had to be replaced. I originally didn't call them because we thought it was just a problem with the float. I had to leave when the repair man came and when I came back he had put in a new pump. I tried to call after the fact but could not get through. Finally, I got someone and they told me they could't guarantee the coverage, but I should fax the invoice in when I got it. I tried multiple times to call or fax. The wait time was over 30 minutes and the fax was continually busy. I finally wrote a letter with the invoice because there was no other way to contact them. They rejected the... Read More

This is the first bad review I have ever written. I am more than disappointed and frustrated with HSA. The time I have spent on the phone, the lack of customer service and the length of time it is taking to resolve my issue. My water heater went out April 2nd, it's now April 22nd I STILL don't have hot water. I have stayed home from work 3 days waiting for companies to come out...I called HSA they refused to let me speak with a manager even after 45 minutes begging to speak to someone with authority that could help me out. I will make sure all of my realtor friends and real estate companies I partner with (it's a LOT) know about my experience and how bad my experience has been. I would... Read More
