Based in New York City, The Home Service Club is one of the leading home warranty providers in the country today. Operating in 49 states the company maintains a vast network of trusted and vetted contractors. The Home Service Club has a great reputation for customer service in an industry that often comes under fire for bad customer service. Although no home warranty company is free of bad reviews, the Home Service Club generally has the fewest. The company puts an emphasis on customer service and follows up with clients to make sure they are satisfied with their experience. The Home Service Club also holds their customer service team to very high standards, addressing and attending to negative reviews wherever possible, making sure whatever happened to upset the customer is ultimately resolved.

The Home Service Club has the largest list of appliances and systems covered out of all the home warranty providers we've reviewed. In fact, the company's standard plans cover many items that would be additional items in another home warranty company's plan. For this, the Home Service Club ranks highly in the categories of Plan Value and Customer Experience. 

Unique to the Home Service Club is their double guarantee promise of satisfaction. This means that if their “service contractor” is unable to complete the repair, the company will take charge of completing it.

Premium and Deductible

The Home Service Club offers two levels of coverage, Standard and Comprehensive. The company does not feature appliance or systems only plans. The Standard plan covers an extensive list of systems and appliances. The Comprehensive plan adds 14 more items to the list. One of which is pest control which is a coverage unique to the company. We found the average annual premium for the Home Service Club to be around $400, but you will have to get an accurate quote for one of the plans directly from the company. 

The trade service fee (what you pay the technician who comes to fix whatever is broken at your house) is flexible. The Home Service Club allows you to choose between $65, $95 and $125. The call fee price you choose will influence your yearly premium.

All items in the Home Service Club contract are subject to individual caps. They are all spelled out and clear item by item in the contract. The company also has an annual aggregate cap depending on the plan. For the Standard plan the annual max is $6,000. For the Comprehensive plan it is $9,000.

Customer Experience

The Home Service Club ranks highest among the home warranty providers we've reviewed for customer experience. They have the highest percentage of positive reviews across the largest customer review websites. Also, they are consistently ranked in the top three home warranty companies and cited for their excellent customer service by independent 3rd party entities. The Home Service Club was graded B+ by the Better Business Bureau.

The Home Service Club contract is clear and easy to understand. Each item covered has the specific caps spelled out in black and white. However you must read to the end to see that the company sets a limit of $2,500 per claim and yearly aggregate maximums depending on the plan. Your coverage kicks in as soon as you purchase the plan, there is no 30 day waiting period as there is with most other home warranty providers. Also, there is no initial period where the coverage is less.

The Home Service Club's cancellation policy is straightforward and free of ambiguity. If you cancel within the first 30 days you will receive a full refund less any claims they paid out and a $45 processing fee. After 30 days you'll get a pro rata refund for remaining term less anything they had to pay and the $45 processing fee.


All home warranty contracts have restrictions, i.e. reasons and stipulations why the company will not cover a specific system or appliance. We're looking at how easy-to-understand and reasonable these restrictions are.

The Home Service Club restrictions are detailed and clear, but excessive compared to a lot of the other companies we rank, particularly when it comes to AC/Heating/plumbing. For any given item there are multiple reasons why that item shall not be covered. However, there is no mention in the company's contract of requiring customers to furnish maintenance records upon request.

Contractor Network

The Home Service Club maintains a large base of qualified independent contractors across the country. The company employs a careful screening process for vetting contractors making sure they meet their requirements for customer service. The Home Service Club monitors and grades their contractors through a Customer Satisfaction Survey Program.

The Home Service Club gets high points in the diversity of items they cover and their excellent customer service. Homeowners searching for coverage for highly specialized home items could find this in the company's Comprehensive plan or optional items. We finished a claim and told Steph we will be happy to share our good experience with it. We had an central air conditioning issue and it was a big job. Long story short we ended up replacing half of the system and converting the other half so it is new and up to all todays codes and saved us a bunch of money on it. We had to do some research on it but Steph was wonderful and helped a lot. She exlpained the issues and obtacles, she was the one who suggested this route, and really and thoroughly followed through with us and our claim. I would love to hire her for my company we could use good people. The new air conditioner is working great and we are all very satisfied.

7/27 I'm updating the review to average because HSC got the problem resolved, the repair was paid for, and we received promises of better service in the future. I won't go higher because it was not painless, and I have no proof it will be in the future--yet. HSC called a local company that was supposed to respond to our electrical problem and we never heard from them. Customer service didn't escalate to a supervisor until after I complained loudly and publicly. The problem was with the electrical panel, in 100+ degree heat, and could have been dangerous. I have gone through several home warranty companies before i found this one and let me tell you they are HONEST! this company is more than fair and has always been completely honest in every way. To date I have had 3 claims and each has been handled quickly with good contractors and no issues. It took a long time to find such a good company and I'm happy I did I'm a single mother of four and am completely helpless when things break down so its great to have a home warranty you can really depend on.

Do not use this company. Customer service is bad and everything is going to be pre existing. I do not know how this company got in the top 10. Maybe they were meant to be in the bottom 10. It took them a week to get someone out to check on my air and yes they fixed one part, they said it was a courtesy to us. But it still did not fix my air. So, now I am out $125 for service call, still a broke air conditioner. They do not cover Freon. And now everything is pre existing unless it's brand new, but I'm sure they will find away around that. Don't use them!!

We have nothing but great things to say about this company. Ray helped our prevous claim and Samantha did a fabulous job this time and really helped us in a time of frustration. We thought our regular mechanic who fills us up with cheap freon would be good but he turned out to be a nightmare and we are not calling him for maintenance any more. Samantha's mechanic was thoroughly more knowledgeable and did an amazing job. The result was exactly as he said it would be and the home service company covered everything.

I purchased a home warranty from HSC and paid extra for pool protection. When my pool pump went out, HSC sent a tech out to look at it. Lo and behold, the part of the pump that broke wasn't covered per the lengthy exclusion clause (in fine print) of the HSC contract due to the fact that the part that broke was "underground". A couple months later, within a few weeks of each other, both of my air conditioning units failed. HSC sent another one of their techs out to investigate the problems. Since I started with them about 3 and a half years back, I never stopped to write a review on the service though the truth is people should know the truth. This is the by far the most honest home warranty they are nice dealing with them but what sticks out to me is the honesty. Every time something goes wrong I think to myself are these guys going to be like all the other home warranty companies, and each time I get if not what I paid for then even more I believe this company deserves recognition for great and fast service but most importantly honesty.

They installed new water heater for us after it burst and started leaking. I am somewhat versed in the field and was able to tell them the specs and answers they needed to order a matching correct water heater and save on unnecessary service calls. The tank holding water had a visible burst in it which cannot be fixed. They delivered a new water heater and the same plumber from one of our previous claims came to install it. The new water heater works perfect.

I want to update my previous review of the home service club. There was a mistake in my address and that was the hold up. Once they discovered this there was no issues what so ever. Home Service Club jumped all over my problem with no questions asked. they went above and beyond to make sure i was satisfied. if you have had problems in the past please! give them another shot.
