Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

First American offers two plans, the Basic coverage, and Premier coverage.

While their basic coverage protects mainly kitchen appliances, their Premier plan offers complete protection for all main home systems as well as appliances.

In line with most businesses in the industry, however, they will not cover cosmetic damages, damages due to improper maintenance or installation, and any known or unknown pre-existing conditions.

Coverage amounts differ by contract, yet their limits range around $3,000 in the aggregate for kitchen refrigerators, $1,500 for heating systems, and $500 for ductwork, which are substantially higher than comparable companies.

Contract & Price - 3.5 / 5

Annual premiums with First American can range from $300 to $500+ depending on the plan and option selections, quite reasonable within the home warranty industry.

The company extends a standard 12-month contract term and allows customers to obtain quotes and enroll online. Contracts seem to have different cancellation policies according to geographical location, so customers are advised to read their warranty agreements thoroughly before signing.

For instance, Texas residents may cancel their plans within the first seven days of coverage for a full refund, whereas Virginia residents have 20 days to cancel and receive back the entirety of their payment, provided they have not filed any claims under said contract.

The people I worked with were very nice and helpful. The contractor was here the next day, early in the morning. He was done installing new dishwasher quickly and cleaned up the mess before he left.

The contractor was quick, same day service, very responsive and innovative, in that the garage door (which I had understood is covered under the home warranty policy - but is NOT covered - just the opener). The door itself had a panel that had deteriorated and was stopping smooth operation on rollup. Eventually, it would have split the door in two, necessitating a replacement of the entire door. The contractor brought with him an aluminum 16' x 4" approx. support piece which he attached to the interior of the door preventing further deterioration and resulted in regained smooth operation of the door. This innovation has resulted in our being able to keep the door operational and not... Read More

Price might be good. One case: Summer, hot, A/C problem took about 6 weeks to repair. Tenants moved to hotel, have to buy two standalone A/C, and pregnant mom, all above scenarios didn't move the repair process quicker. We spend extra more than $1500 ... ...

Need someone with authority to resolve my issue your assistance request# 307762331. My request has been open for approximately 1 1/2 months. The assigned vendor (Greenway Services) has not been truthful with your company. Greenway said they was rebuilding the control board for my oven. I spoke the tech from Greenway and he had no knowledge the board was being rebuilt. I made my assigned rep (Elias Patzan) aware of this and he has not done anything. I just want my issue resolve as soon as possible.

This company is a rip off. They take your money and give you bad service. My dish washer had a bad pump and they send a service man to fix it. I had it fixed 3 times in 6 months The service man told me that it has a bad pump and it will continue to go bad yet the company would not replace it. The money I paid and the repairs cost would have allowed me to get 3 new dishwashers. Do not waist your money with this company

HORRIABLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!! Please shop around for other services, I have been waiting to get my air conditioner fixed all summer, OVER TWO MONTHS of no air conditioning. The contractor they assigned us does not call, when you try to call them they do not answer and the home warranty representives only repeat the same thing and refuse to intervene beyond sending emails telling the contractor to contact you. The person who is handeling our claim hung up on my husband, who at this point is extremely fusterated after 2 months of trying to get answers and help. After speaking to over 5 different people here, and a supervisor we can’t get ahold of again, I can honestly say this company has a... Read More
