Coverage Options - 4.1 / 5

First American offers two plans, the Basic coverage, and Premier coverage.

While their basic coverage protects mainly kitchen appliances, their Premier plan offers complete protection for all main home systems as well as appliances.

In line with most businesses in the industry, however, they will not cover cosmetic damages, damages due to improper maintenance or installation, and any known or unknown pre-existing conditions.

Coverage amounts differ by contract, yet their limits range around $3,000 in the aggregate for kitchen refrigerators, $1,500 for heating systems, and $500 for ductwork, which are substantially higher than comparable companies.

Contract & Price - 3.8 / 5

Annual premiums with First American can range from $300 to $500+ depending on the plan and option selections, quite reasonable within the home warranty industry.

The company extends a standard 12-month contract term and allows customers to obtain quotes and enroll online. Contracts seem to have different cancellation policies according to geographical location, so customers are advised to read their warranty agreements thoroughly before signing.

For instance, Texas residents may cancel their plans within the first seven days of coverage for a full refund, whereas Virginia residents have 20 days to cancel and receive back the entirety of their payment, provided they have not filed any claims under said contract.

This company is horrible. We had an issue with our AC and tried to work with First American to resolve things. Two months in and there is still no resolution in site. I have had three different "case agents" and none would return my calls. They shipped the first repair part which only took 10 days but was the wrong part. The second part is still waiting and no one knows where it is. The contract they work with locally is one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with to the point they are just as rude and disrespectful to First American reps as they are to me. Yet, First American continues to do business with them.

NEVER use this company! The calls are directed to out of the country where they cannot speak English so unable to assist you. They will NOT transfer you to a U.S office. Several times the contractor they set up does not even exist (either out of business or never existed). It takes days for customer service to return my call to get set up with another contractor (4th one). Every contractor they use has the WORST reviews. I finally got a call from Chris N in Leadership dept. He would not give me the chance to explain what I needed repaired at all. He was extremely rude, condescending & a very nasty person. I ask to escalate this issue & he said "it is not going above him & too bad if I do... Read More

DO NOT go with this company. We are going on week 10 with no hall bath. Their first question to us was, "Well, don't you have another bathroom?" So you get what kind of company we're dealing with here. They have been unprofessional and untruthful. They have conveniently "modified" our contract without notifying us and suddenly, our plumbing issue is not covered. Their contractors have the worst ratings and reviews. It took their contracted plumber 6 weeks before they even came out (and came to our house outside of their time window and then canceled the work order!). Run away and use someone else, anyone else! They are nothing more than a scam.

I have used this company for 10 years and every year I swear I will not use them again. They have a good website and decent phone system, but the people behind those systems are incompetent, rude, and ineffective. I have had troubles with them almost every time I use them. The latest involves $352 they owe me. I have not been reimbursed for an out of pocket charge I had to incur (that I got pre-approval for) in May. Now when I call in to ask about it they say it was processed yesterday, I can't speak to anyone with access to that system, no one can tell me what is/was holding it up, and when I asked to speak to a supervisor they hung up on me. I have received a letter each month (June,... Read More

not sure how they made it up so high. I have a fridge that has been down 5 days and they blame the tech that came out the company they sent said this is normal for your company. no priority and the parts may come in 5-7 business days. lost most of my food. they will not waver the 75 and the HD reps have no clue how their company even operates. they tell you the purchasing dept doesn't work on weekends and they blame the company they sent out. I have had these guys for years and they pull this now and then but its been getting worst. I wouldn't recommend them at all

Our air conditioner broke and needed to be replaced during a long heat wave. I have three children and two dogs in a house that is 90 degrees. It has been 16 days and we still have no replacement, even after 23 calls to customer service.

TWO Months without A/C with no end in sight They do not live up to the hype and do not care about their customers (let alone caring about their customer’s situations as if they were their own- which is a survey question repeatedly asked). They refuse to tell you what’s going on with your repair/replacement and continually schedule incredibly sub-par contractors to come out to work on *your* property. If we don’t get a say in what happens, we at least have the right to know *what* is going on on our property. Their claims resolution “specialists” are a joke. I’ve had only *one* decent one and I’ve spoken with over nine. Do not use this company!! Update: FAHW reached out and put a new... Read More
