Our Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

I recently had a water heater claim. You denied the claim because it was a leaking tank, not a mechanical problem. While I realize that is in the fine print of your contract, which no one reads, I have NEVER heard of a company that denies that as a claim. The tech I spoke with confirmed you are the only one he knows of that does not pay for a leaking tank. But I still got to pay the $45 fee for nothing!!!!!!!! I told your representative on the phone when I placed the claim I already knew it was a leaking water heater. He said nothing about that would not be covered. TERRIBLE SERVICE!!!!!!! I REGRET SWTICHING TO YOUR COMPANY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I use the service for home repairs on furnace or appliances I do not have a problem. I have tried to use it on plumbing and I have had terrible service every time. All plumbers that have come to repair dont have a clue. If Choice wants to send Roto Man or Anytime Drain refuse to allow.

The person who signed me up was not helpful or professional at all. He was condescending and sighed every time I asked for an explanation on something. Only reason I called instead of did it online was to get my questions answered. After he tried to pitch me the 3 year warranty and I said no he just said “have a nice day” and hung up. I had no idea when it started, if I needed to sign anything or where I went from there.

I've had coverage from Choice Home Warranty for 5 months and 2 of my appliances have needed replacement. They don't actually cover replacement and installation of these appliances, as represented at purchase of policy. They actually send me the money it would cost them to replace it and then I have to find the appliance and pay for it and the installation, so, in total, about a 1/4 of the cost is covered. In addition to this, when asking about policy, I'm met with rude and unhelpful answers, apparently they don't have 'policies' it's all case by case with no guidelines I can count on.

So many problems with this company. 1. When a part of the refrigerator failed, it caused another part to fail also. They covered the first part, but denied the second, saying it was "secondary damage". Note: If the 2nd part had failed on its own, it would have been covered under the contract. 2. The dishwasher failed. They chose to "replace" it instead of repair it due to the cost (I'm fine with that). But they wouldn't actually replace it, only pay me $179, about HALF of what it would cost to buy a new, comparable model. You can't even buy the cheapest model at Home Depot for that! And they wouldn't pay anything toward removal or installation of the new unit. 3. The said they had... Read More
