Our Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

I appreciate the way my last request was handled. My only complaint is getting these emails stopped. When you need to contact me I appreciate the email but that is all I need. If it was time to renew my policy I could understand but I have an extended policy. Thank You Sharon Smith

The contractor sent to my home was unacceptable. He gave me an inflated estimate for a water heater charging $1,000 in labor and extra materials that were not needed. I did the job myself and wasted $60 calling choice warranty.

I am pleased with the pricing plan I have with CHW, however you get what you pay for. I have found that I tend to get sub par contractors. I have to wait sometimes up to a week for an appointment, appointments are cancelled without notification. When I call with an issue, I'd like someone to come right away, not 5 to 7 days later. Maybe even a day or two at the most, but not a week. Generally the appliance that is broken or not working is important. You don't want to be without it for several days. CHW needs more contractors so our jobs can be completed in a timely manner.

Recently I bought at CHW a total cover plan for my house for $37 a moth. My Air Conditioning unit wasn't cooling properly and I called CHW costumer service to summit a claim. This process was devising and frustrating because it took me at phone to talked about it more than one hour in hold. After submitting the claim and waiting for the technician came to my house, which took more than 2 days with a charged of $60 dollars under contract agreement. The tech inspected my AC unit and with no word and any explanation left . I could't understand if my unit was broken or it was repaired and I decided to called the technician. He told me that I have to wait for CHW to revived the claim . I... Read More

They are terrible least to say. They dispatch very un-knowledgeable contractors. When they cannot find any one to come and fix your problem, they ask you to bring your own contractor, but you need authorization from them. Good luck with that staying on the phone for at least 2 hrs. Then after all that they deny your claim and pay a flat fee regardless of the estimate. They are very bad and I am cancelling my contracts (2 houses) with them now. Do not purchase with them as you will be sorry when it comes to repair time.

My name is Franklin Lopez and my policy no. is 700171778. I took too many days to fix the AC!!! The technician chosen was Air-Flow and came by Thursday, June 14th and replaced metal piece where the coils are. Sunday, June 17th, the problem reappeared. Technician came by Thursday, "fixed" the problem but it reappeared again today Friday, June 22 My tenant has been furious about this because is summer time in Louisiana.

I purchased this warranty for my home, the first summer, my ac went out. Their technician said it was from normal wear and tear, they would NOT pay any of the cost and would not refund my money when I cancelled the plan. Wasn't worth taking them to court. Cost me $4500 for repairs Did NOTHING as promised

Overall I have been very satisfied with the contracted partners that choice works with and sends to my home to have repairs completed. They have been knowledgeable, helpful and very timely. There are a lot of things that even the upgraded policy won't cover on the appliances, so there is usually some additional cost associated with my repair, but Choice has usually covered at least half of the cost not including the small deductible. Over all I would say it has been worth the yearly cost to have the service based on the quality of the work that has been done and the amount of repairs that have been covered. Anyone with a home 10 years or older should consider having a home warranty like... Read More
