Choice Home Warranty is a New Jersey-based company founded in 2008 which offers services contracts. Their plans offer protection against the cost of repair or replacement of major systems and appliances in the home via several plans. Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Cancellation Policy

The contract shall be non-cancelable by the company except for nonpayment of contract fees or service fees, fraud or misrepresentation of facts by the customer, or by agreement between client and company. Customers may cancel within the first 30 days of the order date for a full refund of the paid contract fees. If canceled after 30 days, the customer shall be entitled to a pro rata refund of the paid contract fee for the unexpired term, less a $50 administrative fee and any service costs incurred by the company.

Great company,quick response.I had a problem with my Washer,it needed a motor and it wasn’t cost effective for them to fix a 14 year old machine.They offered me $348 back towards a new one. 10 star company.

We have used CHW services 4 times. The first time the technician showed up, worked for several hours, left the job unfinished and never returned. CHW closed the case without checking on its progress. The second time my husband took off work and no one showed for the appointment. The third time Jacob and Dan for A1 Garage came in a timely fashion and did a great job. The fourth time my husband cancelled a physical therapy appointment to be home and again no one showed up. CHW claims there were no appointments scheduled for the two no shows but we have emails from them that say otherwise. If we had the choice to buy the home warranty from CHW again ... WE WOULD NOT!!!

Very impressed with responsiveness to my request. Within an hour of claim regarding my garage door, the repair was scheduled was for the following day. 30 min. after that notice, the repair company contacted me to ask if I was available in the next hour so their technician could repair then due to opening in their schedule. My garage door was repaired within 2-1/2 hours of filing my claim. Because it was my first claim, I didn't pay a service fee! I have a 2-year Ultimate Plan. I have found that Choice Home Warranty has so many exclusions and sub paragraphs in their contract that they are, in my humble opinion, one of the worst decisions that I have ever made to handle my home. When I tried to cancel the remainder of my contract about half of the way through because I realized that this was simply a company intent on denying claims (we have had three...all were initially denied, one was eventually paid out at the minimum amount for an appliance, costing us thousands). Your poor excuse of a company is so useless. I called about a problem with my refrigerator on the 18th of the month. 3 companies were assigned my case which none of them came out or followed up. Finally after we refused to be reassigned a week and half later, we were offer a messily $400 to get a new refrigerator. Clearly the price is more than $1000.00. My family includes 2 small children and we have been eating from a cooler for 2 weeks. I will be sure to go to social media and tell all my friends of this experience.
