Our Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

Contract & Price - 5 / 5

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

When I call to request a service, it takes a long time to even get to a person to talk to. When you assign a claim, it can take more than 24 hours to find a repair person. If my water heater is out, I need repair service ASAP and there is only one company in my area that services the type of water heater I have. I am given permission to use them but the service person has to contact you about the problem - they don't want to spend 45 minutes on the phone waiting for someone to answer. Right now, I am 72 hours out waiting for CHW to assign someone to repair my microwave. This is not urgent - but it is not acceptable either. I live in the Greater Cincinnati area and you should have... Read More

Had a leaking seal under my Toilet . The Plumbing Company ,came when they said ,on time . Did a inspection of the Leak .Told me what needed to be repaired . Made me watch incase the flange is broken ( Cause CHW doesn't cover the flange ?) He did say he give me a deal if its is $55 Well it was broken ,of course ,its plastic . These guys cover nothing ,the service call. No parts ? When my Contract runs out ,will definitely , read all the reviews . Other Home services ,cover all the parts . The plumber did a good clean job .its the policy that sucks.

Choice Home Warranty employs extremely deceptive and high-pressure sales tactics. They are unable to provide the majority of service that they promise. After a roof leak on one of my properties was left unresolved for six weeks, I cancelled my policies and was given a refund for half of what I paid, even though I was only eleven months into a six year contract. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY.

I contacted the customer service center at 4am for a refrigerator that was not working properly. The agent was so helpful at that time of morning. The repair person arrived at my home a few short hours later and repaired my refrigerator very quickly. Everything was handled so professionally and quickly. I am glad I have this warranty.

Very, very disappointed in Choice. My dishwasher went out. Had great response for service. Technician came out two days later. I received a phone message and an email saying Choice would replace the dishwasher. The next day, received an email offering me a cash settlement. I rejected the settlement, as all I wanted was my dishwasher repaired or replaced. However, the next day, received a call from Choice telling me they would not repair nor replace the dishwasher and offered me a ridiculous settlement which would not pay for the repair now replace the dishwasher. I am very upset with Choice and will not recommend them to anyone! This was my first call to Choice regarding any... Read More

After listening to the sales pitch of my choice home warranty representative and asking tons of questions as I always do with anything to make sure everything was clear about what was offered and how things are handled I decided to come aboard. I have now I believe called upon choice warranty three separate occasions with mixed feelings. One being that instead of just calling a company that's right in your town of residence they always seem to contact people from out of town which makes no sense to me but it's not as quick response as it could be. Two I've paid my 45 dollars each time just for choice to come up with any reason they can find in the word to decline the job which is what... Read More

Some of the latches on the return air grill that holds the furnace filters in place were broken. CHW said that they did not cover grills, however this grill is an integral part of the furnace system, and is essential for the furnace to work properly. I know what the policy says about grills, however common sense would consider this part of the furnace system to be a mechanical part of the HVAC. I spoke to a manager yesterday, November 5th, I believe, and she didn't see it my way. She kept saying that the filters were not covered, which I understand, but she wasn't able to see that the broken latches were a mechanical and essential part of the system. Very disappointing.
