Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Cancellation Policy

The contract shall be non-cancelable by the company except for nonpayment of contract fees or service fees, fraud or misrepresentation of facts by the customer, or by agreement between client and company. Customers may cancel within the first 30 days of the order date for a full refund of the paid contract fees. If canceled after 30 days, the customer shall be entitled to a pro rata refund of the paid contract fee for the unexpired term, less a $50 administrative fee and any service costs incurred by the company.

The contractors you provide are a direct reflection of CHW. Unfortunately, some of them reflect negatively on the company; specifically, Home Tech Appliances. Getting them to keep appointments and completing the repair correctly and in a timely fashion seems to be a problem for them. There is never an attempt for them to make a repair on the initial visit, only to pick up the service fee. As a result, I rate CHW as AVERAGE

Submitted the request on Friday the 2nd of November. Did not get anyone to come out until 7 days later if this happens in the dead of winter we would freeze to death. This was the absolute worst service I have ever had. We are in our 60s and are very disappointed and have told all of our friends about how we were treated. Many were considering joining. My rating would be a 1 STAR

to whom it may concern my name is Gloria Rand I choice the total package contract and I say that the service I have receive was not satisfactory at all I once requested a repair on my dryer I was mailed 60.00 back and still no repair later on I requested a repair for pluming issue no repair I was told by the gentleman that came from modern pluming that my warranty did cover him removing my toilet I then removed the toilet myself he then said ok now I can do my job the equipment he used looked so out of date he had no friendliness about him it was like he didn't want to be there and when a customer can see that its bad business I'm into customer service myself my contract is... Easy transaction. Called with issue, heater had gone out. I had a service appointment right away. The technician was here in an hour,fixed the problem and we had heat, which is important here in North Dakota. And the cost was only $45.00, what a relief.

My first experience with CHW was terrible. It took two hours to get approval. I was on hold, transferred from person to person to be on hold more, unable to get an approval for work in which I had a technician at my house. I left a message for the person that signed my up for CHW to get my money refunded. If your organization cannot answer the phone and give me an approval immediately then you are useless. I shouldn't have to pay a technician for his time because I can't get approval. And I only used a separate technician because your organization couldn't find one. I don't need the headache of dealing with your organization as evidenced by my experience yesterday. Joe Lachowicz
