Choice Home Warranty is a New Jersey-based company founded in 2008 which offers services contracts. Their plans offer protection against the cost of repair or replacement of major systems and appliances in the home via several plans. Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Cancellation Policy

The contract shall be non-cancelable by the company except for nonpayment of contract fees or service fees, fraud or misrepresentation of facts by the customer, or by agreement between client and company. Customers may cancel within the first 30 days of the order date for a full refund of the paid contract fees. If canceled after 30 days, the customer shall be entitled to a pro rata refund of the paid contract fee for the unexpired term, less a $50 administrative fee and any service costs incurred by the company.

My technician was fantastic. He replaced a needed part in my heating unit, even tho Choice denied the claim and he didn't even get paid for that. Choice chose to leave a 65 year old woman without heat because THEY "determined" the damage was corrosion due to water getting in the system....a system that sits OUTSIDE, as does every home in my area, so if it rains, water is gonna hit the system. Choice looks for ways to deny claims and I will be cancelling my policy with them. I paid for 3 years and cannot get anything paid on a VALID claim. Never again.

I called in my clogged drain late New Years Eve and less than 2 hours my job was assigned a technician and in less than 48 hours the technician “Matt” called and showed up and did an excellent job. Very professional gentleman. If I were starting my own company he would be the first person that I would want to hire. 5 stars is not a high enough rating.

While it took a few days for Choice to find us a contractor Service was good. The contractor was great and took care of the problem in short order. However if the problem had been an emergency, the wait for a contractor would have been unacceptable, over-all we were quite pleased with the service.

The response time with getting an appointment and Technician coming out were great, given my washer crashed during the Christmas holiday and I was going out of town. However, I was disappointed that CHW made the decision to replace unit instead of repairing. Unit was only 4 years old and of course depreciated replacement cost was far less than actual replacement cost today.

do not purchase a 3 yr policy because if you have an AC go out they will not repair it and you will only get a fraction of your money back. It will be like you never had them at all. They take out any repairs which you can get done on your own for probably less and done faster and once they prorate the money is gone. Still had almost 2 years left on policy and the one i had to deal with even lied when i brought in the BBB.

I pitched a plan and paid for it all up front. Unexpectedly I’ve had two things go wrong in my home that requires assistance which both are covered under the guidelines your company established. Both were denied for the most nit pickiest of reasons. Garbage disposal they said there was rust where the water and food go. Who would have thought, rust where water, air, and bacteria are at? Pretty absurd if you ask me. The other is my outside air unit the motor or compressor went out. I have no idea. But the technician that came out said it’s considered normal wear and tear. First scheduled service call was great! Created service order online, which was very simple. Service call was scheduled within an hour for the following day. Text communications were perfect. Service company was polite, professional and met expectations. Problem solved.

The policy was supposed to cover my hot water heater when the technician showed up and told choice it was leaking from the water tank they denied my claim saying the water tank was not covered so after being out of my copay I still had to come out of pocket for 1100 for a new water heater that I thought was covered. I found out that I am not the 1st one to run into problem only to find that they are just like Great Benefits in the movie the Rainmaker they just do not pay claims with all the small fine print so my advice to you is to cancel and find a one that is upfront and honest about what you are really covered for without the hidden fine print. One of our circuit breakers went out on Christmas Day. I put a claim in thru the website. The claim was accepted but they couldn’t find anyone to accept the claim. This wasn’t an emergency. Choice did offer us to go outside to get it fix and they would reimburse us. I decided to decline this option, since I wasn’t in a rush. The next day an electrician was out to my home by noon. I paid my deductible and it was fix fast The electrician was very professional and knowledgeable!
