Our Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Came home after work on a Wednesday in winter to an unusually cold house. The heating system stopped working. Called CHW to report and make a claim Misplaced my policy info since I had a new PC CHW emailed a copy of my warranty policy and assisted in filing a claim. Got a call a couple hours later that evening notifying us that technicians were assigned and scheduled to come the next morning. Technicians arrived during appointed time frame on Thursday morning. They quickly discovered the problem and submitted their report. The repair was authorized to replace the furnace motor. Glad to report that the heating system was more than repaired by days end the next day -... Read More

Hard to give the review of 1star because your web review won’t give one start for the poor services you offer. I have been with sears hone warranty for years and was pleased until a friend told me about Choice warranty, it’s the worst decision I’ve ever made. Nothing is covered, but you guys are only good at collecting money!

Thoroughly review your plan before signing up. There are all sorts of unwritten restrictions that you will find out at the time of need. I submitted a claim for a leaking faucet, combined with the water shutoff leaking. I had to place a bucket under the sink to catch the leaking water. Turns out that the leaking faucet is not covered and they wanted me to have the plumber list the shutoff leak separately in order to reimburse me for that cost only. By the time I would have paid the service fee and the faucet, I would have been out of 3/4 the total cost of the repair. They referred me to a case manager, who took more than a week to call me. Unacceptable. Showed how much they... Read More

I tried to mark 1 star but it won’t let me mark below 3 which is comical. Our oven broke and we are only going to get their cost amount to replace the oven which isn’t anywhere near enough to cover it, and they won’t replace it for us, so we are out several hundred dollars when we shouldn’t be.

I have not had a very good experience with CHW. I've been without a washing machine for 11 days. CHW has scheduled an appointment to get repairs 2 times. Cancelled prior appointments so I would be here from 8 -5 to get my machine repaired. Service guy did not show. Called CHW and was told to call the service company. Called them they sent me back to CHW. Went through this on 2 occasions and after the same dance and song hung up on the service company. The parts for the washer has been sitting on my washer for 5 days and still not repaired. So I guess you could say I'm definitely not satisfied! I felt like it was a mistake to take out a home warranty from the get-go. Live and learn!

We thought we were doing great with Choice HW. We had a claim and when we took out the policy, we were told we could get whatever repair technician we would like. Nothing was mentioned that there was a "limit" as to how much Choice would pay. We opted on this particular claim to get our own technician, as we had him before we became customers with Choice, and he did a great job. We live way out in the middle of nowhere in the mountains of Idaho, so we knew we could get our guy to come up here. However, when he came, he gave the price of the needed part, and Choice will only give the amount they would have given to a repair person had they chosen him or her. Therefore, we have to pay $300... Read More

When my washer failed I called Choice Home Warranty. They had a tech to my house the same day. When it was determined that my washer couldn’t be repaired, an offer was made to me for replacement. Everyone I dealt with at Choice Home Warranty through this was most helpful & everything was resolved within a couple of days. They do strive to make their customers happy.
