Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Cancellation Policy

The contract shall be non-cancelable by the company except for nonpayment of contract fees or service fees, fraud or misrepresentation of facts by the customer, or by agreement between client and company. Customers may cancel within the first 30 days of the order date for a full refund of the paid contract fees. If canceled after 30 days, the customer shall be entitled to a pro rata refund of the paid contract fee for the unexpired term, less a $50 administrative fee and any service costs incurred by the company.

I purchased my home warranty from Choice Home Warranty (CHW) in August 2020. In November 2020, they updated the Total Plan package I purchased with new coverages. Instead of bringing those who had purchased the Total Plan prior to the update into the new plan, they left us out with the old "outdated" plan. They never advertised that they upgraded the plan and that it would cost 10 dollars more a month (I would have gladly paid this). Skip to Jun 2021 when my AC stopped working due to a Thermal Expansion Valve. This WAS NOT covered by the Legacy Total Plan but IS covered by the updated Total Plan. I have to pay out of pocket now for an issue that was covered under the "new" Total Plan... Read More

Every step was great except for one issue. Our refrigerator needs to be replaced and you are asking us to wait for gift cards or some sort of credit from Lowe’s . Why the delay. Our refrigerator, think about it could you manage without a refrigerator? Appreciate any help. Eric

My service person was very efficient and took care of the problem of my air conditioner. However it took Choice Home Warranty 2 and a half weeks to get a service person with confusion on what date and time . I waited a whole day expecting a service person with no call that nobody was coming. I was not a happy person. Needs improvement.

My recent dealings with CHW makes me wonder what exactly I am paying for. CHW did not want to fix my refrigerator last year (the part cost $45.06) and instead cashed out my appliance. Apparently the case manager assigned to this issue forgot to leave out the fine print in receiving a cash out option, so when I called over a year later, for the same appliance, with another inexpensive issue, they are now refusing my claim. So I paid for 2 $60 service calls on an appliance they are not fixing. Not what I signed up for.

It was so easy to submit a claim online even late at night on the weekend. The response to my claim was fast and the repair service they referred me to was also dependable and fast. They gave me all the information up front that I needed to contact the repair company which made it a breeze to get everything handled quickly.
