Our Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

They took the claim immediately and had a technician assigned within a couple of hours in which I made contact and we setup the appointment. He came and done the work in about a hour. As of now fridge is cooling fine.

I had a problem with my washing machine. I thought that it was broken so I made a claim. Later I realized that the problem might be a stopped up plumbing so I called to make sure this type of problem was covered. I got an immediate answer so I submitted a 2nd claim for plumbing. The plumber came out on the same day. He was very nice and fixed my problem very fast. He ran the washing machine twice to make sure it was draining properly. He was very prompt, clean and courteous! I canceled the claim on the washing machine itself. Thank you for the good work again!

The response time on our request for pool service was excellent. The company who came out to do the repair was very professional. He worked quickly and explained what he was doing. It was great to have punctuality and professionalism! Thank you!

As a contractor, we have had multiple claims denied for normal wear and tear items. They also have only paid us for two claims submitted (November 2016) and still have not paid the remainder of the open claims that were approved and authorized. Their customer service representatives are rude and talk over you constantly and we feel that they are unfair to the homeowner when they fail to pay for normal wear and tear items such as light switches and receptacles that fail.

Typical insurance (home warranty) trickery. They advertise how kitchen appliances are covered. My dishwasher's handle and latch assembly broke and the door would not close and lock closed. The handle, which is a part of the latch assembly, is plastic and the plastic handle broke so the latch would not latch the door closed. Thus, the dishwasher does not work. But, for some odd reason, this is not covered by Choice Home Warranty! Also, the inner door panel has cracks in the plastic inner door panel. So, the dishwasher leaks. But, for some odd reason, this not covered by Choice Home Warranty! This is similar to "Bait & Switch" or purely a scam!

Customer service went above and beyond to resolve my claim to my satisfaction. They were quick to answer the phone; didn't just say "sorry, can't help you" and found a solution to my problem that was satisfactory to me. Thanks!

Choice Home Warranty is the absolute worst Home warranty company. I bought the policy for my brother and they have denied both claims he has made. The first was for a garage door opener that stopped working. They said is was pre-existing because it was an older opener. He also called about a water leak in his bathroom. After the plumber can to look at the repair, he was told that the cartridge that needed to be replaced that regulates the hot and cold water was not covered. The plumber told my brother that the hot water heater was also going to need to be replaced. When I called the service rep at choice. She told me that the hot water heater is covered, but not the tank, and not is... Read More
