Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Cancellation Policy

The contract shall be non-cancelable by the company except for nonpayment of contract fees or service fees, fraud or misrepresentation of facts by the customer, or by agreement between client and company. Customers may cancel within the first 30 days of the order date for a full refund of the paid contract fees. If canceled after 30 days, the customer shall be entitled to a pro rata refund of the paid contract fee for the unexpired term, less a $50 administrative fee and any service costs incurred by the company.

Switched to this clown outfit a few months ago after having American Shield for 15 years. Thougt a cheaper per visit copay would be worth the swithch since my house is in pretty good shape. Well first my dryer was not getting hot enough...they gave me the "secondary to the issue" excuse for non coverage...Ok thank God Sears coverage was still in effect....1,2,3 my dryer was repaired....Last Friday my toilet clogged after what I think is something my toddler grandson slipped in it...I made my claim last Friday...Technican calls me Monday advising he would be there at 1..and he was....I was immediately worried because he came without a tool in sight....No Plummber logo on his truck,... had an issue with our oven that was from our home purchase (4yrs ago). Motherboard had failed and since it seemed to be an older version of the oven (no idea how old), Choice Home gave us a good amount on it so that we could buy a new oven. Check took a while to get approved and sent to us, but all in all we were very satisfied.

I called CHW to file a claim. After sending an electrician, they tel me it is not covered when I have a recording saying this is covered. They have the worst service and should be shut down. If you google them you can see ALL their complaints They sent out an AC person to fix my AC it turns out the wire from the air handler shorted . The AC guy did a temp fix and told me to call CHW to send out an electrician. They denied the claim although I was told DC elect. was not covered but AC elec. in the home was covered except for intercom, and doorbell. I have this recording saved.

My central air stopped working in the mid of summer and i called choice home and they immediately took action and the next day the tech. came and repaired the unit. Choice home has some very good contacts with some very good companys they deal with and that helps as the problem is taken care of the first time.

Save your money, you're going to need it with this outfit. The money only goes one way with Choice Home Warranty and it's not your way. They pay so lousy no repairman will every get to your problem and if they do your problem will be from neglect and you'll still have to pay to get the problem fixed.

I paid extra to cover ac and pump . They say you have to maintain service contracts on all appliances . We did when I called about an A/C unit they had the repairman on the phone asking questions than called back that the part was not covered even the visit wasn't covered. The bill was 1249. After paying our company the unit still was fixed so we called CHW and their excuse this time was it was secondary. My husband is an engineer and was furious he said " you can call anything a secondary condition." I feel this company is a hoax . Now I'm on the phone for 20 minutes to cancel the coverage , I'll stay on for 2 days if I have to and I'm following a report with BBB.
