Our Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

I called CHOICE Home Warranty to place a plumbing service call. Icon Mechanical was assigned. The plumber showed up on time, diagnosed and repaired the leak. CHOICE followed up to ensure the job was completed and done to my satisfaction. Very pleased.

We had CHW come out the 1st time to diagnose our AC problem and the technician did not diagnose the problem properly and told a lie to CHS that we needed units replaced. That the compressor was out. He never even turn on disconnect to diagnose the problem. Compressor works great. So CHS wouldn't cover that. So i called my own technician who is well respected, and he discovered that it was only a blower motor and control board that was affected. Called CHS and they aggreed to pay for my technician to do the work but after paper work was submitted for him to start the job CHS came back and backed out. Meanwhile, I asked if CHS will hire their tech to do the job, after long hours and days... Read More

I just switched after 7 years with American Home Shield aka AHS to Choice. AHS was all down hill the past few years since they were sold to another company. Heck, I couldn't even get through to cancel my contract with AHS had to cancel my credit card to get AHS attention. I am so glad I switched all 5 of our properties to Choice as they sent out an AC repairman that was truly concerned about our satisfaction just as Choice is starting out to be. Glad we finally canned AHS and went with a company that for now seems to care.

I've used my home warranty twice and been extremely pleased both times. Once for my dryer and this week for my oven. The guys who came to my house were here when they said they would be and were very professional and pleasant.

My Air conditioner was not working when I notified Choice. They contacted a local contractor who got in touch with me and within 48 hours, the unit was tested, parts ordered and all I had to pay was the $45 service fee to the contractor. It was a simple, pleasant and inexpensive experience.

My garage door stopped functioning properly so I contacted Choice Home Warranty. They walked me through the claim process and even took the information from me to initiate the claim. Within an hour they contacted me with the name and phone number of a contractor. I called the contractor and set up an appointment for the following day. The contractor was early the next morning and the door was working again in less than an hour. The only money I paid out-of-pocket was the required $45 service call fee. The process was easy and painless. I was happy with CHW's response. I was worried that this would take a few days and things could be stolen from the garage.

We used the service for a leaking toilet. The response was prompt and professional. The technician came to the scene within a day and resolved the problem!

I would like to give a 0-poor rating to this company as I had very bad experiences (4-occasions in the last year). Everytime they give a reason to support "no coverage" which is not in agreement with the same technician who diagnosed the issue and reported differently. They find loop hole in the policy and justify their stance. I have shown second opinion at my cost and they still disagree. I would like to bring them down so others don't go through this hassle and pain. I am willing to share more details as needed. Thanks

Ceiling fan in my bedroom stop working. I made a claim on a Friday and within four days a repairman came out to check the ceiling fan and determine the fan was inoperable and with approval put a new fan in. The repairman did the work in a knowledgeable and professional manner.
