Hippo may be a fairly new home insurance company but they are underwritten by Topa, a California-based company with a 30+ year history and an A- rating with A.M. Best. Hippo has taken a modern approach to homeowners insurance and streamlined existing policies, stripping them of no longer relevant coverage and adding coverage for more contemporary needs. One example is providing four times the usual amount of coverage for your home office equipment, should you be working from home. Another major standout component is their coverage for certain home appliances and systems, such as washing machines and water heaters. These are items that typically do not fall under the umbrella of a homeowner's policy. Hippo also extends coverage to nannies, babysitters, and other individuals working in your house.

As of now Hippo only operates in California.

Home Insurance with Hippo

Hippo has put a lot of effort into modernizing homeowners insurance and addressing the blind spots in traditional policies. The coverage for home computer equipment, the adjustment for rebuilding costs in the event of a large scale disaster, and the replacement cost features all make their plans well worth a look if you live in the state of California.

I've worked with Hippo Insurance. I am not a homeowner, but I would for sure want to become their customer when I become one. The team is dedicated and friendly and it's obvious that they truly care about giving their customers grade A service.

I just signed a new policy with them about two months ago as I just bought a new home. I have to say they were quite a bit cheaper than the bigger companies and I felt like the coverage was aimed more towards what I was looking to have covered. I have not made a claim on anything yet, but I did call to add more coverage and they were easy to get ahold of and had good customer service.
