What's Included with Delta Dental

Negotiated Fees. Delta Dental has worked with network dentists to lower the costs of their services. This means cheaper treatments and bigger savings for you.

Balance billing is not allowed, because participating dentists agree to accept Delta Dental's fee and the patient co-payment or deductible (if applicable) as full payment.

There are no forms for you to fill out because participating dentists submit claims directly to Delta Dental.

Payments are made directly, no need to wait for reimbursement checks.

No deductible or calendar year maximum.

Set copayments so you know your out-of-pocket cost for each procedure.

Delta Dental pays its providers in installments and the payout in is relatively small increments. If your company changes insurances before they are finished paying the amount covered, you’ll be stuck with the bill. On a $4300 service. I paid $2300 Delta quotes coverage for $2000. Seven months later my company switched insurances. Delta had only paid $1000 (over the course of 7 months), my dentist billed me for the rest. I’m now with a new Delta Dental company that won’t cover the bill.

Delta Dental's management is horrible! I called twice regarding my enrollment issue with Delta Dental and requested both times to speak a supervisor because the CSR did not have the authority. I waited for almost an hour each time. In the first call, I was promised that a supervisor or manager would call me back in 24-48 hours. I waited for 4 days, and no one called. I called the second time and still could not get a supervisor or manager on the line. The CSR promised that she would call me back if she could get one on the phone. She did call me back after 2 hours, but there was not supervisor or manager on the phone. She tried to help me with her limited authority but still could... Read More

Delta's use of small print to hide the exclusions they don't cover even fooled my dentist. I was initially told that I would be responsible for $430 for a crown, but ended up being billed $880. When I DID find the exclusion clause in all the fine print, I realized that for anyone over 19 the only items covered were x-rays, and 2-cleanings/year. I cancelled as it is cheaper to pay out of pocket for these limited services.

Deceitful Practices: Delta Dental ignores their Customers and their own Policy Terms. Do NOT subscribe to their Services, you will be paying money monthly only to be denied services when you need them. => Due to Covid-19, my son's College closed on 3/17/20 and as he headed to the transport bus he fell and broke his front tooth at the gumline. The pain was excruciating. Upon arriving home in UP of Michigan, he called a local dentist who agreed to see him as an emergency( since the office was closed due to Covid). $400 Cash was required upfront before services could be rendered (payment drained this college student's savings). The tooth was repaired and the pain subsided. The Claim was... Read More

I have had continuous dental coverage for over 40 years. After my wife passed away in May of 2020 her company provided Cobra coverage through 12/1/2020. I signed up for Delta Dental to take the place of the Cigna coverage I had before. Delta dental said they sent me a letter stating they needed proof of coverage for the previous 12 months on December 11th, 2020. I do not recall receiving anything from them. If it came through as from "Moda Health" there is a good chance I did not even open it as I get bombarded with Medicare offers on a daily basis. I received a note from them on January 28th, 2021 saying they needed proof of continuous coverage for 12 months prior to signing up... Read More

What about the free plan for low income seniors? I'm 67 years old and only have ss income, and can barely pay my bills.

What good is dental insurance when they only cover up to $1000.00? I need 2 foot canals and they will not cover the cost of the one most urgently needed. It should not be called insurance, as it will not cover any unexpected dental work more than $1000.00I would think a root canal should not be a luxury, if you have the misfortune of needing 2 in one year. In essence, I paid $500. in premiums and a 100 dollar deductible to save $400.00.

Based on the comments from several customers I must commended Delta for putting them up. However, given the underlying issue of customer service I will not sign up even-though I can get this from my company. I would hope that Delta is reading and just not posting. There enrollment is truly impacted by the negative comments which could clearly be fixed if the CEO of the company was doing their job.

Delta Dental of Oregon has very poor customer service and representatives that take phone calls that have very little knowledge of their dental insurance programs. I was covered by Delta Dental of Oregon for 8 years through my employer. When I retired I tried for two weeks to purchase their individual plan or their dental plan through COBRA coverage so I would not have a lapse in coverage. I called daily, filled out all forms including my bank account information for direct withdrawals, and submitted 7 documents from my employer proving I retired and had dental insurance coverage for the last 8 years without a lapse. Delta Dental reps always promised they would call me back and after two... Read More

Horrible customer service. Representatives were not knowledgeable when asked questions regarding a claim and had to be transferred to a senior rep who happens to not know how to answer my question either. I waited over an hour for a rep to answer only to be transferred to another rep (senior) which I also waited to speak to for over an hour and then it turned out, I got transferred to a wrong senior rep, supposedly. So I had to wait another hour to speak to another senior rep who just hanged up right away!!!! Very frustrating to be transferred 3 times wait over 3 hours on the line for one claim concern.
