Healthy Paws ranks highly among the pet insurance companies we've reviewed. The company offers a single pet insurance plan with multiple reimbursement options, comprehensive coverage for alternative therapy and no caps of any kind.

Reimbursement is based on the cost of your actual vet bill and there is no limit as to the type of or how many claims you can make for covered conditions. Healthy Paws provides all of this at the same or sometimes lower prices than less comprehensive plans.

Where Healthy Paws really asserts its dominance is in benefit limits. Regardless of the plan you choose, there are no caps on coverage, either annual, lifetime, or per incident.

Generally speaking, other companies offer unlimited benefits as an option available only for their highest level and most expensive plans. This is not the case with Healthy Paws; it is included in their standard price plan.

As long as the condition or treatment is covered under the plan (very few restrictions do apply) there is no limit to what the company will pay to make your animal well.

One Healthy Paws customer reported to us that the company recently paid out over $18,000 on a $20,000 vet bill in order to save the life of a dog suffering from cancer. More recently, another customer wrote, "I have a six-year-old German shepherd. Unfortunately, he already has had more than his share of problems, from herniated discs to cancer. Healthy Paws has not given me any hassle or trouble, even though his expenses to date are approaching $40,000. This was by far the best financial decision I have ever made."

As with deductibles, Healthy Paws is in line with the industry's best companies by allowing you the flexibility of customizing your reimbursement percentage as well.

You can select either 70%, 80%, or 90% at the outset of your policy. Healthy Paws reimbursement is based on the actual veterinary bill.

The company will compile all covered treatments for a given claim and pay your chosen percent after you've met the deductible. As with low deductibles, high percentage payouts are going to equal a more costly monthly premium.
In general, Healthy Paws pays on a reimbursement model. Policyholders pay the vet up front for treatment, submit their claims to Healthy Paws, and receive a reimbursement. However, in situations where pet owners can't pay their vet at the time of treatment, they have the option of contacting Healthy Paws and asking them to pay the vet directly. If the veterinary hospital is willing to accept payment from Healthy Paws, the insurer can work directly with it to expedite access to medical records and claim processing. This direct payment option is available on a case-by-case basis and applies to treatment by any licensed vet in the United States. It is not limited to any specific network of vets.

Healthy Paws enrolls pets 8 weeks and older. While some companies have no upper age enrollment restrictions, Healthy Paws limits coverage to pets 13.99 years old and younger.

Some companies offer accident coverage immediately upon premium payment. Healthy Paws imposes a 15-day waiting period for accidents and illnesses.

The waiting period for hip dysplasia is 12 months. Healthy Paws will not cover hip dysplasia if the pet was 6 years or older at the time of enrollment. Other companies we review have no such restrictions on hip dysplasia.

For pets younger than 6 you'll have to provide documentation of a complete physical within the last 12 months. Pets older than 6 must have had a complete examination within the last 30 days.

The best thing I ever did for my pets was to get insurance. It was hard enough to handle my dog being hospitalized during the holidays but knowing my Healthy Paws insurance would cover their portion of the cost relieved a lot of stress. The claim process is simple and the refunds came quickly. I highly recommend them.

We adopted our first family dog in May of 2013 and went back and forth as to whether or not to buy Pet Insurance. In the end, we decided to go for it and went with Healthy Paws as we thought they measured up favorably against competitors. We have been paid-back ten-fold since. A year after we got our beloved Nicco, he developed a limp in his front paws due to a congenital defect in his front elbows. He was 1 at the time and required surgery on both front elbows. I wish my personal health insurance was a great as the one my dog has via HealthyPaws! The app is extremely easy to use, making submitting a claim and getting reimbursed a breeze. The company cares about my pet and responds to my needs quickly and efficiently. The coverage is phenomenal, there are no fine print clauses to exempt a condition, and they are not that expensive. Their coverage sounds too good to be true (reimbursing you for a trip if you have to come home early due to your pet's injury or illness), but they hold firm to everything they promise and more! I swear by HealthyPaws and will stay with them for all my pets.

Chief is our 2 year old Border Collie who we have owned for 6-7 months. On the first Saturday in December he was running around our yard as he always does and he slipped, caught his right hip on a raised flower bed and sustained a fracture/dislocation of his right hip. We were devastated. We took him to the ER and we were told he would require major surgery to correct the problem. Surgery went well and Chief is now going through rehab to help with his functional recovery. We submitted our invoices to Healthy Paws. They have been great! I’ve been using Healthy Paws since I adopted my puppy 4 years ago. They offer a number of coverage options, and the claims process is simple and straight froward. It really is a breeze working with Healthy Paws! Recently, my little guy had to recieve back to back surgeries. The first for an obstructed intestine, then again for a post surgery infection. This is the second time I have unfortunately had to submit a claim. It is stressful enough dealing with a sick dog. Healthy Paws is wonderful. Claim is easy to file and I was paid four days after submission, and this included the Christmas holiday. Also, they always follow up with an email to check on my dogs well being. I am so thankful for Healthy Paws. My sister, who is a veterinarian, now recommends Healthy Paws to her clients because of my incredibly positive experience.

Our German Shepard needed major back surgery for a ruptured disk. Not only did Healthy Paws cover everything they promised but everyone I spoke to was not only professional and courteous but caring and very sweet. We had the payment in hand within 7 days from sending in the invoice. We are so impressed with Healthy Paws we would recommend them to every pet owner.

We have a 6 month old golden retriever. After he ate a bee at 3 months old and had a massive reaction that required hospitalization and cost us over $3,000, a co-worker told me about Healthy Paws. I looked into it and also compared the coverage, cost, benefits, cap, etc. to other pet insurance carriers. Ultimately, we decided to go with Healthy Paws.... THE BEST DECISION EVER! I am so incredibly grateful for Healthy Paws. We purchased pet insurance about a month after we adopted my dog, Peanut. Peanut was neglected prior to adoption and unfortunately developed health issues shortly after we got him, such as pneumonia and heart worm. Healthy Paws has 80% of covered pretty much everything besides wellness visits, which is amazing. If it wasn't for HP, we'd be having serious financial hardship right now, especially with how much the heartworm treatment ended up costing.
