Healthy Paws ranks highly among the pet insurance companies we've reviewed. The company offers a single pet insurance plan with multiple reimbursement options, comprehensive coverage for alternative therapy and no caps of any kind.

Reimbursement is based on the cost of your actual vet bill and there is no limit as to the type of or how many claims you can make for covered conditions. Healthy Paws provides all of this at the same or sometimes lower prices than less comprehensive plans.

Where Healthy Paws really asserts its dominance is in benefit limits. Regardless of the plan you choose, there are no caps on coverage, either annual, lifetime, or per incident.

Generally speaking, other companies offer unlimited benefits as an option available only for their highest level and most expensive plans. This is not the case with Healthy Paws; it is included in their standard price plan.

As long as the condition or treatment is covered under the plan (very few restrictions do apply) there is no limit to what the company will pay to make your animal well.

One Healthy Paws customer reported to us that the company recently paid out over $18,000 on a $20,000 vet bill in order to save the life of a dog suffering from cancer. More recently, another customer wrote, "I have a six-year-old German shepherd. Unfortunately, he already has had more than his share of problems, from herniated discs to cancer. Healthy Paws has not given me any hassle or trouble, even though his expenses to date are approaching $40,000. This was by far the best financial decision I have ever made."

As with deductibles, Healthy Paws is in line with the industry's best companies by allowing you the flexibility of customizing your reimbursement percentage as well.

You can select either 70%, 80%, or 90% at the outset of your policy. Healthy Paws reimbursement is based on the actual veterinary bill.

The company will compile all covered treatments for a given claim and pay your chosen percent after you've met the deductible. As with low deductibles, high percentage payouts are going to equal a more costly monthly premium.
In general, Healthy Paws pays on a reimbursement model. Policyholders pay the vet up front for treatment, submit their claims to Healthy Paws, and receive a reimbursement. However, in situations where pet owners can't pay their vet at the time of treatment, they have the option of contacting Healthy Paws and asking them to pay the vet directly. If the veterinary hospital is willing to accept payment from Healthy Paws, the insurer can work directly with it to expedite access to medical records and claim processing. This direct payment option is available on a case-by-case basis and applies to treatment by any licensed vet in the United States. It is not limited to any specific network of vets.

Healthy Paws enrolls pets 8 weeks and older. While some companies have no upper age enrollment restrictions, Healthy Paws limits coverage to pets 13.99 years old and younger.

Some companies offer accident coverage immediately upon premium payment. Healthy Paws imposes a 15-day waiting period for accidents and illnesses.

The waiting period for hip dysplasia is 12 months. Healthy Paws will not cover hip dysplasia if the pet was 6 years or older at the time of enrollment. Other companies we review have no such restrictions on hip dysplasia.

For pets younger than 6 you'll have to provide documentation of a complete physical within the last 12 months. Pets older than 6 must have had a complete examination within the last 30 days.

The cost for the calm and love you get back from them is with every penny. They guide you and love your pet. This company is not only the best pet insurance it is also the most human. They care!!! We are definitely not just numbers for them, they really care about your pet!! We love them and their system for your claims is so fast and seem less, they are a joy to talk to!! I adopted a wonderful husky puppy in June in which I immediately enrolled her at Healthy Paws after friends had recommended it to me. Recently I found out that my sweet girl has issues in her back knees and would need surgery to correct them if she had any hope of being able to run and play like a normal dog. She has now undergone 2 knee surgery's in the last month and Healthy Paw has been incredible and a life saver for me financially. They have been very kind and caring and have processed my claims smoothly and quickly. I am SO incredibly thankful for her insurance coverage and would highly recommend!

This is a premiere insurance company with amazing customer service. When our beloved hound dog was diagnosed with kidney failure and spent 7 days in the hospital, the peace of mind provided by the knowledge that Healthy Paws was backing us up was extraordinary. Thanks to Healthy Paws, we could focus on treating him. Healthy Paws covered the entire hospitalization within a week! Important backstory: we are with Healthy Paws because a friend who had the same pet insurance that we had at the time incurred substantial hospitalization costs only to have all of the claims denied. Even if you currently have other insurance, switch to Healthy Paws immediately.

My experience with Healthy Paws has been very positive. I have a diabetic dog who had surgery to remove a tumor and also cataract surgery. Submitting claims has been very easy to do on their website, and they reimbursed me in less than a week for all the claims that have been made. I highly recommend this to anyone who want comprehensive coverage and a positive experience with pet insurance.

Healthy Paws has been a life saver for my French Bulldog. He’s had two major surgeries, one at 1 year old and one at 6 years old. He’s also got terrible allergies, which are always changing. Over the past 6 years, Healthy Paws has made all of these conditions financially possible for us to manage. Submitting claims online is user friendly. Completed claims take only a few days to receive and then the check arrives right after. I sincerely believe the monthly price is valuable for the service they offer. We have never had a problem with the company, and in fact, they even checked in on our frenchie after his surgery. I highly recommend Healthy Paws.

It's taken me a while to write this review as I recently lost my boy Watson to heart disease. As I continue on in this painful journey without him, I can not be more thankful that Healthy Paws was able to assist me when Watson was here. I remember reading how having pet insurance makes it so pet parents don’t have to worry about finances so we can focus on our good boys/good girls.. I will keep this part concise as talking about it still makes me cry, but when Watson was diagnosed with CHF he had multiple vet visits, cardiologist visits, ER vet visits 2-3x in one night), and the list goes on. We chose to insure our two cats with Healthy Paws after a thorough search for the best plans, and we're really glad and thankful that we did. We've had a few emergencies now and fortunately Healthy Paws was there for our cats and us when needed. The claims process is straightforward and simple, processing and reimbursement happens fast (with a detailed explanation which costs are covered and which ones are not), and customer service has been excellent, showing real concern and care for our cats. When you're worried and stressed about your pet's health it's a huge relief to know that you can rely on their insurance to help you.

Getting Healthy Paws insurance for our dog was the best move we made. At just 1 1/2 years old, our lab was dx with ulcers and Inflammatory Bowel Disease. His testing and treatment was very expensive. We never would have been able to give him the care we did without Healthy Paws. We never had a problem getting reimbursed, and the response was always prompt. Unfortunately, we lost him a few months ago at the young age of 5. We just got a new puppy and have already enrolled him in Healty Paws. We highly recommend this insurance.
