Our Overall Rating: 1.1 / 5 (Poor)

HSA Home Warranty policies cover the warranty industry's standard list of appliances and home systems. Policies are available on an annual basis. Once you pay your premium, your policy is in full effect, with no waiting period or home inspection required. Unfortunately, the company doesn't provide a lot of specifics on the most important aspects of a home warranty policy on its website. They do not describe the variety of plans they offer, the cost of those plans, the benefit limits of their policies, or the deductibles associated with making a claim. HSA may have innovative policies, low deductibles and plan prices, great service partners, or a host of other benefits. You have to request a quote to find out.

Speaking of requesting a quote, we also have some concerns about their privacy policy. Once you submit your information to HSA —which you must do to get a quote—the company reserves the right to share your data with marketing affiliates, real estate companies, and other entities with which you might prefer not to share your information.

Contract & Price - 3 / 5

HSA's starting price of $589 for a 12-month contract, makes them the most expensive base-level option on the market. While an exact quote can be generated via an online calculator, we strongly recommend that potential policyholders thoroughly read all the fine print. Once a policy has been activated it is irreversible, since HSA does not offer any sort of cancellation or money-back policies.

HSA provides a sample contract for potential customers on its website: HSA Sample Contract

Cancellation Policy

The warranty is non-cancelable by either party except for the following: A. The contract fees are not paid. B. Fraud or misrepresentation of facts material to the issuance of this contract. C. If the contract provides coverage for the seller during the listing period and the listing is withdrawn or expires. Should the contract be cancelable under the laws of the state where the contract holder resides, an allowable administrative fee will be charged upon cancellation. HSA may, at its option, decline to issue any renewal or cancel any contract, if the contract fees are not paid within 10 days of the due date.

Claims Processing - 2.5 / 5

With their claim of “the nation’s largest network of professional contractors”, HSA aims to provide quick, efficient service. Their service fees range between $75-$100, with no waiting period. Their 30-day recall period, as well as not requiring maintenance records, reflect the company’s wish to make their services easily accessible. Under certain circumstances, HSA’s 24/7 claims department may approve the use of a contractor that operates outside of their network.

The company does not provide advertised coverage under the policy. It literally takes days on the phone to speak with someone about a claim. . The wait time on the phone is about 90 minutes. Once you speak to someone. The case is assigned, but they don’t have contractors to perform repairs. One contractor called me and stated that he could not get to my water leak for 30 days or more. The contractor suggested I hire an outside contractor and try to get reimbursed from a HSA. Log into the online account and there is no way to communicate with HSA to let them know the contractor cannot do the job. Now I have wait 90 minutes again to speak to a person. What a circus.

I have honestly never experienced such horrible customer service. There is no follow up, no communication and hold times are hours long, if they even answer. There is no way to get in touch with anyone regarding your account or any questions you may have. All customer service is based overseas and all have been very hard to understand. This was purchased by the seller and we will NOT renew. The experience with this company is horrid.

This company is AWFUL...if I could give it 0 stars I would. Since we moved into our new home a month ago, our refrigerator has been broken. Not exactly the type of appliance you want to live without. The previous owners bought a warranty with HSA and so we have no choice but to use them. We have had calls in which we've waited on hold for over 2 hours. The repair people they keep on container in our area have inflexible schedules and could not service the refrigerator for 1 week. When the repair company finally came, they had to order a part from HSA which didn't arrive for 8 days. The diagnosis from the company which HSA assigned us was incorrect. We are now waiting (again, ONE MONTH... Read More

Just spent 2 hours trying to get reimbursed the fee they inappropriately charged me... they agree should not have been charged and that I will be credited the $80 BUT no timeframe or even a "confirmation number". Asked to cancel my contract was put on hold then told would be transferred to the cancellation department. Put on hold, got bounced back to first representative who told me "cancellation department is not available today" and I would have to call back another day! By the way, this was between 9am and noon Eastern Standard Time on a Tuesday in August .... so when are they open??

Do not even consider. I've had HSA for almost 18yrs. Used to be a great company but I'm guessing they merged and dont care about customers now.. Had a washing machine go out around 7/8 and put in a request for service. Repair man comes out on 7/13 said needed to be replaced and would turn in to HSA. HSA finally called on 7/21 and I missed the call. Been trying to return the call for a week now get the same thing "your wait is over 1hr" Called in at 7am when they opened "your wait is 10 min. 1hr later still no answer. No other way to contact this Company unless through snail mail. Horrible customer service. Will be canceling as soon as I have this taken care of and file a BBB complaint.

DO NOT BUY a warranty through these people. I'm on my 36th day of no refrigerator, I've wasted so much time between HSA and the contractor fighting with them for a solution. I finally just bought an new one and I'm canceling this service. I can't describe how frustrating this process has been. You are never allowed to talk to anyone else besides the "customer service" rep who is trained to say "I understand" or "I'm so sorry". Obviously not sorry enough to help and fix the problem THAT I AM PAYING YOU TO DO! Buying a new fridge was not what I wanted to do, but the only way out of this nightmare. Again, DO NOT BUY!

BEWARE! If I could give HSA a negative score, I would. We have been waiting for 3 weeks to get our A/C repaired. HSA only had two contractors in our area that accept claim work. We finally had a technician diagnose the issue and now we're waiting for HSA authorization. It's been almost one week! I decided to call and see if I could get some answers. After waiting on hold for an hour, the representative I spoke with promised to mark our claim urgent. When I asked to speak to a Supervisor, I was informed all the Supervisors are busy on other calls. Our claim has been waiting for approval since last week and it is over 90 degrees outside. I can't wait any longer!! When I pushed... Read More

Terrible customer service! Cannot understand them, 45-60 minute hold times, refuse to let you speak to a supervisor, they lie, pass the buck, after holding for almost an hour to speak with a representative, they place you on hold AGAIN for another 10-30 minutes while they “check” on info for you, every person you speak to gives you different information, they hire useless contractors, when you demand to speak to a supervisor, they hang up on you

Service from HSA is terrible. I have a dishwasher that needs to be replaced per the contract since it cannot be repaired. I have called them 6 times over a 6 weeks period to try and get this resolved and still have no dishwasher. I get the same answer every time that they are waiting for the repairman (GE) to give them a report. They call GE while I am on hold, generally for 1.5 to 2.0 hours, and then claim they cannot reach GE. Same story for all 6 calls! I recommend that you find another home warranty company if you are considering HSA. They lie and do not follow contractual requirements. I cannot imagine what would happen if I did not have air conditioning for this long.
