Our Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

The process was smooth as it related to scheduling a contractor, however: the representative didn't see too friendly like maybe she was not having a good day. If I remember correctly her name was Andrea. Customer service is a whole package, not just scheduling an appt.

i was amazed at all the items that you cover in the home. i have tried to get a home warranty with other companies, and i would have to warrant each individual item and it was horribly expensive. i am very pleased with this policy.

The amount of phone calls I got after I filled out forms on line, were annoying. to the point I went back on line to find another Insurance company . I think I agreed to the sign up because of your reputation. and references but mostly so you would stop calling. Then after i signed up I got two more calls to sign up ...It was freaking annoying.

The sales rep was very pushy and arrogant. I told him I would think about it. Filed first claim for dryer repair part needed. It has been a week so far, and the technician they assigned does not call back or give you any information. So far I am not happy with the company.

We have been enrolled with Choice Home Warranty for the past 5 years. In that time we have had a few positive experiences but many more dissatisfying experiences. We almost didn't renew this year but at the last minute decided to do so. Our bad experiences have resulted from the company's limited participating contractors. We have had to wait several days and in one case more than a week to be referred to a participating contractor. When we selected our own contractor (because of a limited Choice Home Warranty contractor panel) we found that even though service was approved, the CHW payment was well below the rate charged by the contractor we chose. Most recent experiences were... Read More

If I were not for the response I got two times, the first being that the part was pitted and corroded and denied because it was a prior problem, and the second was that I was told I needed to do a 'leak test' on a compressor, and was 'told, that the freon replacement' would be covered. THE RESULTS WERE, 1ST ITEM....A SETTLEMENT, AND THE SECOND ITEM A $200 CHECK, WHEN I PAID $316.00. I do not think either was a fair judgement as I purchased the contract to 'cover repairs', not to bargain about the costs involved. I PAID MY $45 CO=PAY FEE ! IF THOSE SITUATIONS HAD NOT HAPPENED, I WOULD GIVE MORE STARS, BECAUSE THE SERVICE PEOPLE WERE TOPS !!

We have not had a repair yet. We have to wait on the contractor to come back to a second appointment. Also the warranty seems to have an enormous amount of exceptions. Not sure it is worth the money. Example: our garage door opener fell apart...the warranty nit-picks by part not covered according to the contract. If you add all the parts together it is pretty much the entire opener. Also almost all homes use the remote keypad and they usually come with openers you can purchase..yet not covered. There shouldn't be this much hassle for a customer.

Ronald Lucas at Choice Home Warranty was very helpful. I purchased a policy from Choice Home after being with American Home Shield for many years. Because I didn't like the treatment I received from them on my last service call I decided to switch to Choice Home Warranty. I'll write another comment after my first service call.
