Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Cancellation Policy

The contract shall be non-cancelable by the company except for nonpayment of contract fees or service fees, fraud or misrepresentation of facts by the customer, or by agreement between client and company. Customers may cancel within the first 30 days of the order date for a full refund of the paid contract fees. If canceled after 30 days, the customer shall be entitled to a pro rata refund of the paid contract fee for the unexpired term, less a $50 administrative fee and any service costs incurred by the company.

This was my first time using Choice and it was quite impressive. I called Choice on Saturday afternoon to report a water leak in our laundry room. My claim was acknowledged in less than 30 minutes. After the acknowledgement the local plumber called me to set up an appointment. I was asked if I wanted the appointment tomorrow (Sunday) and was taken back by the next day appointment. Pete and partner came, did the work and were gone. Two very nice technicians. I have to say that I am glad that I switched to Choice and would recommend them highly.

Service calls take 2 visits bc no one can ever get through on the phone for approval! Very frustrating to have no air for days in the middle of summer or no water for days due to a bad water heater.

My very first claim with CHW was very poorly handled. The A/C tech who was sent by CHW contractor claimed that there is NO access!! Home built in 2012. A/C company who installed the unites sent their tech & was able to fined the "secret" access. I was denied the service due to the false access issue. Then my tech found that it may be the TXV ($1363)that needs replacement. Among CHW MANY MANY excluded (not covered) issues besides, the no access, was "of course".The TXV!!!! When the tech came to replace that TXV he found that the pump NOT the TXV is not working & did replace it. I was promised by more than one representative from CHW to be reimbursed for the cost if there is access!! Later I... Read More

The booklet says you will get a call from the repairman and an agreed upon date and time will be arranged. That did not happen. I got a recorded message telling me the date and 4 hr window time. I was not going to be home so I called repairman and rescheduled. Having to be home and available during a 4 hour window is regressing many years. A 2 hour span would be much more acceptable and then a phone call when they leave the previous job and are on the way would be perfect The work was done very good and in a timely manner. Only complaint was with scheduling.

When they the A/C technician finally showed, the problem was fixed within 20 minutes. The issue I have is the service turn around. I called Choice Warranty on a Saturday and the earliest someone could come out to look at our unit was the following Thursday according to the representative I spoke with, which was frustrating enough. However, on Tuesday I received a phone call from the servicing company to tell me that they couldn't come out until Friday. At this point I'm very irritated, because our upstairs unit was broken and my daughter has asthma and the heat was causing her to have flare ups.
