Our Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Had an issue with the water heater. Went thru choice to fix it. The technician said it needs flushing and costs $300+. Got another technician from outside Choice to flush for $100 (way cheaper than Chiice), they said it doesn’t need flushing. Talked to Choice again, the other technician changed part and said it’s fixed. This happens everytime with Choice. Not reneweing with Choice anymore.

After I signed up to be a member, I kept receiving more email information to sign up and join again! That can be very annoying as a new customer. Take that mailer off the list. Otherwise it makes me want to cancel my new membership.

On my second attempt after speaking with a supervisor I was able to schedule a technician visit to check on water leak on my refrigerator (freezer side bottom). The local technician who visited from Lone Star Appliance was very courteous and nice. He figured out the problem easily and fixed it. After all Choice Home Warranty worked!!!

This was my first claim dealing with your company. I was less than satisfied with the outcome. With my dryer being unfixable, you offered to give me $299.99 for a new one. We'll if you haven't looked at what a new one costs, maybe you should. You can't touch a new dryer less than $460. And that does Not include adding tax, delivery and removal fees. I have out of town guests for the holidays. Not being able to provided them the ability to do laundry while visiting is ludicrous. Since I couldn't find a new dryer for the amount you were providing, I was forced to buy a used one. Out of my pocket none the less. Even after speaking with an account manager who only offered me a max amount of... Read More

The responses from CHW are not answering the inquiries. EX: on Dec 19, 2018, I said this claim was not completed but FS Rey Angelo Sason answered I have been in contact with a representative. The fact is the technician from ONE CALL HOME PRESERVATION would report to CHW and asked for approval to replace the root cause of the leaking, the toilet. I am unsure the values of this system. On the same day, I asked whether CHW received the reports from Technicians, the CHW rep, FS Anne Jessica Delfin, replied 'Thank you for your email and for being a valued customer of Choice Home Warranty.'

The company sent a repair person who gave a false report about our appliance and said he could not repair it due an inability to find the parts because the dryer was under 1 year old. The dryer was 14 months old and I was able to find the parts online. The home warranty called back to send another service person who at first wanted to charge another service fee. The first repair man was also supposed to fix our dishwasher and has not nor has he called back to tell us anything. This being our first experience using the home warranty it is not looking very promising!
