Choice Home Warranty is a New Jersey-based company founded in 2008 which offers services contracts. Their plans offer protection against the cost of repair or replacement of major systems and appliances in the home via several plans. Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Cancellation Policy

The contract shall be non-cancelable by the company except for nonpayment of contract fees or service fees, fraud or misrepresentation of facts by the customer, or by agreement between client and company. Customers may cancel within the first 30 days of the order date for a full refund of the paid contract fees. If canceled after 30 days, the customer shall be entitled to a pro rata refund of the paid contract fee for the unexpired term, less a $50 administrative fee and any service costs incurred by the company.

CHW is by far the worst home warranty ever. They are very misleading and look for ways to not pay out. I was told that "if they couldn't fix it they would replace it". That has been far from the truth. I submitted a couple of claims to CHW and they paid $0 or fixed anything that was wrong, but I was still liable for the service call fee. I canceled my policy and no longer want to be a part of this!!

I have made 2 claims. Both for appliances (washing machine and refrigerator) both times they are quick to respond and set up a service appointment with an independent subcontractor. And both times they decided it was better to replace the appliance rather than repair. That is where the negative part of my experiencehas been; they do not actually replace the defective appliance but instead offer a cash sum for you to replace it yourself. The money does not cover the replacement cost of a new one. (About half of retail cost for same brand new appliance)

5 star service came the next day and fixed the plumbing problem. The guys name was Jonathan very professional and courteous and explained what was the problem was. This is the first time using Choice, I was impressed.

the plumber that fixed disposal leak deserves 5 stars.the plumber who checked leak in basement deserves o stars he just wants to make money on our heads no counter top or cabinets need to be moved the elbow can be seen and fixed in the basement,thats where the leak is likely to be ill check it and fix myself rather than be ripped off by a inferior plumber he is so unprofessional compared to the other plumber.....

This was the first honest repair person I have seen. Being this was the 5th visit by someone to repair the same issue.... he advised me that this issue with my Samsung refrigerator cannot be repaired. He advised me that this issue is recurring in Samsung refrigerators and mine was the worst he had seen. He indicated that the burn that was behind the part he took out was dangerous for me I had asked priorctepsir people about this burn mark and they blew me off. This was the most honest and forthright repair guy who had come to do needed repairs for me thus far. Not always the company but the representative (contract person) A/C went out on weekend, temp in mid 80's, called Choice for repair and a repairman arrived Monday to check the unit, after a very short time informed me I needed an electrician to repair ( he did not work on mobile homes), collected his fee and left without even checking the outside condenser or looking at the outside unit. NOW comes the good part, Choice sent another repair man out, who immediately checked the outside compressor and found a wire loose, which grounded the connection shorting a circuit. This is the second time we have had a home issue that needed attention. BOTH times CHW was prompt, professional and totally saved the day. They kept us in the loop with phone and email communications and sent us extremely wonderful contractors who we would have never even known about before CHW.
