Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Cancellation Policy

The contract shall be non-cancelable by the company except for nonpayment of contract fees or service fees, fraud or misrepresentation of facts by the customer, or by agreement between client and company. Customers may cancel within the first 30 days of the order date for a full refund of the paid contract fees. If canceled after 30 days, the customer shall be entitled to a pro rata refund of the paid contract fee for the unexpired term, less a $50 administrative fee and any service costs incurred by the company.

It took a few days for Choice to find a repairman in my city, then when the appt was set up they expect me to be available 8am to 5pm! The part needs ordered and then I had to schedule a day I could be home all day. I tried to pin down a time but talking to an automated system made that impossible. So now I’m 2 weeks without a dishwasher and it will be 3 weeks when the part comes in. And now I have to reschedule that appt because I can’t be home all day!! Canythey give me a 4 hour window for the repair? The repairman was very nice. But he had to call to get advice on the problem.

It says that the hot water is covered. When mine blew, they told me only the mechanical parts and not the hot water tank. What kind of home warranty company is that. That’s how they treat Veterans.

From the moment we ask for claim for ac it was done with in short time. Very professional tech came and repaired our Air Conditioner in record time, within 24 hrs. Your claims procedure for my particular claim was confusing and frustrating due to the fact that there was more than one adjuster(?) and apparently more than one department handling this process.

Our AC went out on a very hot week in July and a Sunday! but Choice claims department is open 24/7 so I called on Sunday to file a claim for AC repair not expecting to get a service appointment anytime soon. The claims rep was very nice and helpful and filed my claim immediately. To my delight I got an email first thing Monday morning informing me that a service tech would be at my home that evening! Repair was done and we were nice and cool within an hour!!!
