Our Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

I have not had a very good experience with CHW. I've been without a washing machine for 11 days. CHW has scheduled an appointment to get repairs 2 times. Cancelled prior appointments so I would be here from 8 -5 to get my machine repaired. Service guy did not show. Called CHW and was told to call the service company. Called them they sent me back to CHW. Went through this on 2 occasions and after the same dance and song hung up on the service company. The parts for the washer has been sitting on my washer for 5 days and still not repaired. So I guess you could say I'm definitely not satisfied! I felt like it was a mistake to take out a home warranty from the get-go. Live and learn!

We thought we were doing great with Choice HW. We had a claim and when we took out the policy, we were told we could get whatever repair technician we would like. Nothing was mentioned that there was a "limit" as to how much Choice would pay. We opted on this particular claim to get our own technician, as we had him before we became customers with Choice, and he did a great job. We live way out in the middle of nowhere in the mountains of Idaho, so we knew we could get our guy to come up here. However, when he came, he gave the price of the needed part, and Choice will only give the amount they would have given to a repair person had they chosen him or her. Therefore, we have to pay $300 ...Read More

When my washer failed I called Choice Home Warranty. They had a tech to my house the same day. When it was determined that my washer couldn’t be repaired, an offer was made to me for replacement. Everyone I dealt with at Choice Home Warranty through this was most helpful & everything was resolved within a couple of days. They do strive to make their customers happy.

When i called with questions, it was very pushy. kept asking for my credit card number befor ei could evne ask next questions. I wanted to upgrade and add additional options and all they wanted was my credit card number first. Also rice given to me over the hpnoe does not reflect price i have. I was told a $75 svc fee becuase i was buying a full year subscription and got a $85 fee. very disapointed, feel like i got bum rushed, forced ot give my payment and then lied to about pricing. Once again I used the service and once again I was denied. This is the eighth or ninth time Ive used their service and have been denied every time. They always seem to find some technical reason to deny me. This time it was my water heater and on my contract it clearly states water heater. I called them up the plumber showed up 24 hours later found the problem said that the tank has a defect on the welding around the element hole. Water was leaking through there. It took a whole day for them to receive the plumbers report and I didn't get the the results till then the third day and of course the results were a denial, stating that they do not repair tanks. Well of course they don...Read More

I was turned down on a claim of no electrical problem when an electrical breaker box was replaced because it was bad. This was certainly an electrical problem as far as I am concerned. Also an advisor was supposed to be assigned to me within 24 hours and it has now been two days with no e-mail as promised. This apparently a scam company as the exclusions far out number the exceptions.

So far, it’s been great! The response time to find a vendor and set an appointment has been great! The 1st time was for a repair on my washer. However, the company sent out had all bad reviews which I wished I had known beforehand. Guy comes out, he looks at my washer, not taking anything apart, writes down the error codes that It was showing and that I had already given him and tells me that he needs to research the codes back at the office and then ask for my $60.00. I told him what the error codes were per the washer manual that I showed him. He said he still needed to research. Never heard from him again. I called the warranty company and said that I was going to find someone else and...Read More
