Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Cancellation Policy

The contract shall be non-cancelable by the company except for nonpayment of contract fees or service fees, fraud or misrepresentation of facts by the customer, or by agreement between client and company. Customers may cancel within the first 30 days of the order date for a full refund of the paid contract fees. If canceled after 30 days, the customer shall be entitled to a pro rata refund of the paid contract fee for the unexpired term, less a $50 administrative fee and any service costs incurred by the company.

I currently bought an older home and use Choice Home Warranty. They have been really helpful in resolving a couple issues I’ve had with my HVAC system. Without them my costs would’ve been very unpleasant.

We are extremely pleased with the service we consistently receive from Choice Home Warranty. We have had a contract with them for about 5 years. A couple times we have had to make a claim on a Sunday, as we did last week when our air-conditioner stopped cooling. The Choice representative was friendly and acted quickly, getting us an appointment for the following morning at 9:00. He got that appointment on a Sunday for Monday morning within an hour! I have been very happy with Choice Home Warranty. When I emailed Saturday night that my heat wasn't coming on I got an email within 5 minutes letting me know that an appointment had been set up for me for Monday morning. I am POSITIVE if I had told them it was an emergency they would have had someone to my house Saturday night. They are a reliable company. I only have one small complaint. I do need a new furnace and that claim was denied because I "should have taken better care of it ". I have the furnace looked at at the beginning of each season, but none of the technicians saw the problem. I don't think I could have taken care of it if it wasn't called to my attention....BUT I... Fast and Perfect! Called in claim on Monday; Plumber scheduled for Tuesday A.M. Due to doctor’s appointments, I contacted assigned plumber and rescheduled for Wednesday morning. Plumber called on Monday to advise that he was on the way to our address. He arrived within 45 minutes thereafter. He confirmed that our 26-year old garbage disposal needed to be replaced. He said he had six on board his truck and proceeded to make an immediate replacement. No mess and no fuss, and he was finished and out of here in less than an hour. We use Choice Home Warranty on average about twice a year. Never disappointed with the promptness of the service and the quality of the assigned technicians.

My wife called to renew today and the person she dealt with was very pushy, obnoxious and rude to her. Had I have been home I would have canceled the renewal all together. As far as the service outside of the renewal process is concerned the program does what is says it will do. Maybe just fire the people who work in sales and the survey result would be better.
