Our Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

The serviceman was very respectful and tried to answer questions regarding the appliance. He gets 5 stars. It is unfortunate that Choice only offered a cash disbursement rather than replace the appliance. I had to look for a less expensive option to replace the microwave/wall oven since they only gave me 1 option and it was 1/3 the amt that I would need. Keep in mind that was looking at a scratch and dent store using the cheapest version of the same brand but not the same Gold level that is currently installed . The claim states that they offer replacement or an amount that is an average of the cost of the appliance. The lowest price for my appliance, lower quality, is almost... Read More

Very difficult to do business with. Very few claims approved. Have to fight for everything. I paid for a 6 yr warranty and extra for a house greater than 5000 sq ft. When you have a house that size, AC/heat systems are different from smaller homes - there are multiple AC systems, multiple thermostats, and multiple zones. While I paid extra to compensate for a larger home, the claims dept refuses to acknowledge that all of the items above are normal for a house this size. They indicate these are add ons and "after market", which is totally not true. All of these items are normal for a house this size and were part of the initial installation. I am now locked into almost 4 more... Read More

Philip (Kingdom Repair’s) arrived on time and properly prepared for the times we are living in with mask and rubber gloves. Unfortunately he was unable to repair our dishwasher without ordering expensive parts and departed, saying he will contact CHW to determine subsequent action, whether to repair or replace.

Reported a broken garbage disposal to choice warranty, they approved a fix, and plumber came out and fixed the problem without a hassle. Great job, Choice Warranty.

The technician that came out was wonderful and didn’t even charge us because he felt that we shouldn’t have to pay for a mistake of another company. He did not fix our problem because he felt we shouldn’t have to pay anything and the first company should be the one to fix their mistake. I contacted choice as well as the technician that came out. CHW would rather have us wait until the motor dies on our sump pump, then waive the $65 fee for the first company to come out and install the $10 check valve that should have been installed when they installed our new sump pump. All because my claim was 35 days after the first service was done. The sump pump they installed was also a terrible... Read More
