Our Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

I appreciate CHW always sending a technician for my repair, but I never get approved for my repairs. It’s very disappointing. My heating system is out and was not approved for repairs. I have a sick child in my house with no heat. We had to purchase heaters until we can afford to get someone to come out and repair it. I’m really looking for another home warranty company. What disappointing even more, I always referring CHW to anyone who’s looking for Home Warranty insurance. This is so upsetting!!!!

Response time to my claim was very rapid. Unfortunately the cause of the problem was "excluded" from coverage resulting in my paying $100 dollars out-of-pocket".

Takes to long to get stuff fixed. Waiting in furnace to be fixed. Lucky it is warm so furnace isn’t as critical right now. Hate to happen in winter!

My 2nd experience with Choice about an A/C malfunction was Very disappointing. I had a faulty valve that was leaking freon. Choice turned down my claim based on lack of regular maintenance which was NOT truE. My A/C has been regularly serviced yearly for the past 8 yrs. Without any evidence otherwise, Choice Rejected my claim although the valve was shown to be defective by the technician. I wish to be reimbursed for the valve replacement & freon charge.

Ac went out called Choice and they sent someone out but then denied the claim. Saying it wasn't working before, when it was working the day before. They just didn't want to pay the tech to fix it. We had to pay the tech ourselves 450.00 to fix a leak. What is the point in having a home warranty if they don't not honor what they say they will do.

HVAC has had issues since 3/2/2020. Replaced coil in furnace; replaced a section of cooling piping; found compressor has leak in coil. This has taken two claims and has not been timely at all. Contractor has persisted through all the repair, but Choice made him provide images of compressor coil and delayed the repair. I know it will get fixed, but it is not very comfortable at night without cooling. I just want it fixed and to be normal again. Dan Delleney

It's been a week and you still can't find a electrician to fix a small problem with an outlet? Can't rate you until my problem is fixed!!! The rating above is because that was the lowest it would take.
