Our Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Called CHW on July 7th about a leak under my kitchen sink. Got an appt for the 9th, the plumber came out and said I needed a new faucet. So he came back on the 13th with a new faucet and installed it. He was very nice. I would have given a 5 star except it took 6 days from the time I called to get it fixed. If it would have been a bigger leak I wouldn't have wanted it to take so long. Thank you, Robin

OSP Plumbing is an excellent vendor. They respond to Choice Home Warranty's request immediately. The receptionist, Whitney, is very courteous and helpful. If she says she will get back to you, she does so very quickly. She is very pleasant and easy to work with. Our repairman, Matt, was excellent. He is knowledgeable of what he is doing, careful as we face the corona virus. But he is quick and works on the problem with such expertise, there is no doubt he is an asset to the company. Thank you for sending him for our repairs. He is fast, efficient and the problem is rectified.

People at choice were very helpful, But my washing machine is still not working, it is almost two weeks since I reported; and while I understand that it is the companies they contract with that are taking their time. It is still annoying not getting things fixed for so long. I feel like I am always having to explain to them that I need my washing machine sooner rather than later. the first time they wanted to schedule the first appointment ten days from the day I called, after pressuring they came in four days. They came looked at the watching machine order parts and said parts would arrived on Wednesday. They call me on Wednesday and wanted to scheduled me for the next Thursday over... Read More

the technician was knowledgeable and fixed my problem. He also went beyond what was required by performing a check up on my AC system.

My comments are mixed. Big thanks to a Universal Repair LLC for showing up on time and repairing a refrigerator that was 75% dead on the spot!! The service I got in the end was great. So I am giving 5 star to the technician From Universal Repair LLC, who came in the end of a long process with Choice. Unfortunately, this service was delivered 2 and 1/2 weeks after the original claim was initiated. The first technician that was sent ended up being a scammer. The Name was Appliance Doctor. The service man charged me a service call and extra $50.00 to promise to make it in a specified time. He showed up on time but falsified his diagnosis and said he needed to order a part and will be back.... Read More

my technician was great! But I am so disappointed in choice home warranty no where on the website does it say a max amount will be paid on appliances when they can not be fixed. When you have upper end appliances this will then be a joke and you should keep paying for extended warranties through the original company you bought the appliances from. In the end I do not recommend choice nor will I american home shield has a max amount of 3,000.00 for upper end appliances which is who I will go with from now on.
