Choice Home Warranty is a New Jersey-based company founded in 2008 which offers services contracts. Their plans offer protection against the cost of repair or replacement of major systems and appliances in the home via several plans. Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Cancellation Policy

The contract shall be non-cancelable by the company except for nonpayment of contract fees or service fees, fraud or misrepresentation of facts by the customer, or by agreement between client and company. Customers may cancel within the first 30 days of the order date for a full refund of the paid contract fees. If canceled after 30 days, the customer shall be entitled to a pro rata refund of the paid contract fee for the unexpired term, less a $50 administrative fee and any service costs incurred by the company.

The contracted service technicians are always professional. The program needs improvement in ensuring their customers are knowledge on their policies to minimize disappointed if expectations are set early and clearly

Dishwasher was fixed and works great. However, the next day we noticed that the dishwasher was not level. It runs fine, but we are concerned that not being level might have a negative effect on the motor. The tilt is easily noticeable.

Choice home warranty has been nothing but a huge headache dealing with incompetent people having to make phone call after phone call to get a technician out to my house and after the technician has been there they'll send you an email and most likely deny your claim!! I would not recommend choice home warranty to anyone I feel that' choice home warranty rips people off every time!! and when it comes down to performing the work they just say denied!! Every claim that I've had so far I've had nothing but problems with choice home warranty!!! I've been lied to by choice home warranty!! The technician was great and very knowledgable and gets a "10" but Choice Home Warranty gets a "0". I submitted a claim for my dishwasher and my stove and oven on the same claim. When I relized that the stove and oven were not on the first work order, I submitted a second claim and asked to have both done on the same service call. The technician showed up for the dishwasher and even though I showed him that the claim clearly showed the dishwasher, stove and oven, he said it was not on his work order so the only thing he could do was the dishwasher. I have had an issue with a dishwasher that has not worked since August. I've waiting for a repairman (weeks to over a month several times), then parts that could not be found, then parts that were missordered. I live in a metro area and have a hard time believing that appliance repair services take so long to secure! I have had a repairman 5 times in the last 5 months, with the dishwasher never working. Currently waiting for more parts, ridiculous!
