Choice Home Warranty is a New Jersey-based company founded in 2008 which offers services contracts. Their plans offer protection against the cost of repair or replacement of major systems and appliances in the home via several plans. Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Cancellation Policy

The contract shall be non-cancelable by the company except for nonpayment of contract fees or service fees, fraud or misrepresentation of facts by the customer, or by agreement between client and company. Customers may cancel within the first 30 days of the order date for a full refund of the paid contract fees. If canceled after 30 days, the customer shall be entitled to a pro rata refund of the paid contract fee for the unexpired term, less a $50 administrative fee and any service costs incurred by the company.

Your employees are pushy. They talk fast, constantly, say any questions, ready to book. Try to say we have a sale, if you do not take the sale now, no deal. If you have a quality product, it should talk for itself and not need sales gimmicks. No pressure. Let the customer have a minute to review things and make a solid decision. Pressure will turn customers off quickly.

Service was good but sometime the technicians are not available for a longtime and this causes delay fixing issues during emergency.

Our service tech Charles was efficient, professional, and explained everything. Our washer needed a new carburetor and other repairs so we were offered a cash amount to replace it. We were told we would receive a Lowe’s egift card, but then never received further details. I called customer service the following day and learned that it would take 30 days to receive the E-gift card!!!! Meanwhile we have no washer! An E gift card should be ready immediately. Totally disappointing. We were then advised that we could request a check made out to us instead, so we could expedite ordering our new machine. That should’ve been explained prior to offering the E-gift card.

Your warranty contract is misleading and this has not been a positive experience. The third page of the contract labeled "Common Questions" plainly states, "A home warranty provides repair or replacement of all covered appliances". Later in the contract (fineprint), it states Choice will replace the item for the actual cost. What does the actual cost mean? I had to ask and the representative said, "Wholesale cost". Do your representatives really know the actual cost of the appliances needing replaced? Is the money offered equivalent to the appliance being replaced? still waiting on DW to work properly -1st was not installed correctly then wont heat, and now draining into tub. Technician was polite, respectful knew his stuff but did not repair issues on 1st trip nor troubleshoot problem on 2nd trip... still hoping it gets repaired and addressed ASAP.
