Healthy Paws ranks highly among the pet insurance companies we've reviewed. The company offers a single pet insurance plan with multiple reimbursement options, comprehensive coverage for alternative therapy and no caps of any kind.

Reimbursement is based on the cost of your actual vet bill and there is no limit as to the type of or how many claims you can make for covered conditions. Healthy Paws provides all of this at the same or sometimes lower prices than less comprehensive plans.

Where Healthy Paws really asserts its dominance is in benefit limits. Regardless of the plan you choose, there are no caps on coverage, either annual, lifetime, or per incident.

Generally speaking, other companies offer unlimited benefits as an option available only for their highest level and most expensive plans. This is not the case with Healthy Paws; it is included in their standard price plan.

As long as the condition or treatment is covered under the plan (very few restrictions do apply) there is no limit to what the company will pay to make your animal well.

One Healthy Paws customer reported to us that the company recently paid out over $18,000 on a $20,000 vet bill in order to save the life of a dog suffering from cancer. More recently, another customer wrote, "I have a six-year-old German shepherd. Unfortunately, he already has had more than his share of problems, from herniated discs to cancer. Healthy Paws has not given me any hassle or trouble, even though his expenses to date are approaching $40,000. This was by far the best financial decision I have ever made."

As with deductibles, Healthy Paws is in line with the industry's best companies by allowing you the flexibility of customizing your reimbursement percentage as well.

You can select either 70%, 80%, or 90% at the outset of your policy. Healthy Paws reimbursement is based on the actual veterinary bill.

The company will compile all covered treatments for a given claim and pay your chosen percent after you've met the deductible. As with low deductibles, high percentage payouts are going to equal a more costly monthly premium.
In general, Healthy Paws pays on a reimbursement model. Policyholders pay the vet up front for treatment, submit their claims to Healthy Paws, and receive a reimbursement. However, in situations where pet owners can't pay their vet at the time of treatment, they have the option of contacting Healthy Paws and asking them to pay the vet directly. If the veterinary hospital is willing to accept payment from Healthy Paws, the insurer can work directly with it to expedite access to medical records and claim processing. This direct payment option is available on a case-by-case basis and applies to treatment by any licensed vet in the United States. It is not limited to any specific network of vets.

Healthy Paws enrolls pets 8 weeks and older. While some companies have no upper age enrollment restrictions, Healthy Paws limits coverage to pets 13.99 years old and younger.

Some companies offer accident coverage immediately upon premium payment. Healthy Paws imposes a 15-day waiting period for accidents and illnesses.

The waiting period for hip dysplasia is 12 months. Healthy Paws will not cover hip dysplasia if the pet was 6 years or older at the time of enrollment. Other companies we review have no such restrictions on hip dysplasia.

For pets younger than 6 you'll have to provide documentation of a complete physical within the last 12 months. Pets older than 6 must have had a complete examination within the last 30 days.

I highly recommend Healthy Paws Pet Insurance. You will not find better coverage, better customer service, easter claims processes, or better reimbursement rates. I am so grateful for Healthy Paws. My husband and I have owned 4 dogs and will be welcoming our 5th dog within the next couple of weeks. We did not know about pet insurance for our first two dogs. One of them developed a heart condition that cost us a car payment every month in medications and he had a couple of emergency visits, one which resulted in a $3k surgery. Our second dog developed heart disease and declined within 3 months. We had $3k in vet bills over those 3 months. Our third dog was a retired guide dog who developed a neurological condition. I created policies with Healthy Paws for both my dogs since I adopted them 5 and 6 years ago, and we've had a couple of emergency visits and Healthy Paws has always been super helpful and easy to work with. Their guidelines for what they reimburse are extremely clear and I've never encountered any unpleasant surprises. Even when one of my dogs had to spend 2 nights in the hospital (in other words, a hefty bill), I submitted the claim over the app (which took less than a minute, just took a photo of the invoice and hit submit), and it was processed in about a day and a half. I absolutely love HealthyPaws insurance for my dog and would highly recommend it to anyone who has a pet. A few of my friends, who're pet owners, have this insurance (per my recommendation) and they're very happy with it as well. Pros: - Customer service is excellent - Very prompt payment (most times getting reimbursed within 2 days of submitting a claim) - Excellent coverage - Got coverage on a test that most insurances don't cover Cons: - a bit pricy, but totally worth it, especially if you have a pet with health issues

One of the first things I did when I got my Lab puppy at 8 weeks was sign up for pet insurance. Having researched different insurances I landed with HealthyPaws because of their good sonsumer rarings, competitive premiums and website user friendliness/interface. I have never regretted this decision. The premium has climbed significantly in the 8 years since I have been a member, but my Lab has gone through an array of health issues since she was a puppy - chronic stomach issues, two knee operations and kidney disease to name a few - and HealthyPaws has saved me thousands of dollars despite the monthly premium payment. HealthyPaws has allowed us to keep our French Bulldog, who has more allergies than I can count, healthy and happy! We have never had an issue with a claim and always receive our reimbursement timely. I wish we didn’t have to use our insurance as often as we do, but we have been completely satisfied with HealthyPaws insurance and customer service! Will have this insurance for all pets we ever have and we recommend it to our friends and family as well!

Our little poodle Millie jumped off bed and broke her front leg in Aug. We took her to ER at that day and scheduled following surgery and weekly review for her. Each time when we submitted claim to Healthy Paws, we can get very quick response (around 3 ~ 4 days at most). We once worried that ER fees & sugary fees (thousands of dollars) may need a long time to process and we might miss the card payment date. But it turns out there is totally no basis for that concern. We will definitely keep using Healthy Paws and recommend their team to our friends who have a pet : )

I highly recommend Healthy Paws!! I adopted a kitten that turned out to have acute asthma! he is only 2 with an ER visit every Sept/Oct at the turn of the season due to Asthma attacks from allergies. The bill was way over $1K not to include meds. Healthy Paws deposited my reimbursement within days (less than a week) at 90% and for his meds as well. I would had never been able to afford his med bills without the reliability of Healthy Paws!

When I bought HealthyPaws health insurance for our dog I wondered about the coverage and the customer service, especially given how health insurance for people can be difficult to navigate and to get coverage for medical problems. HealthyPaws online reviews were good so I thought I'd take a chance. Well I was not disappointed. When our precious labradoodle, Lily, was stricken with thyroid cancer we were fortunate enough to find a veterinary radiation oncologist who could treat her fairly advanced cancer.
