Healthy Paws ranks highly among the pet insurance companies we've reviewed. The company offers a single pet insurance plan with multiple reimbursement options, comprehensive coverage for alternative therapy and no caps of any kind.

Reimbursement is based on the cost of your actual vet bill and there is no limit as to the type of or how many claims you can make for covered conditions. Healthy Paws provides all of this at the same or sometimes lower prices than less comprehensive plans.

Where Healthy Paws really asserts its dominance is in benefit limits. Regardless of the plan you choose, there are no caps on coverage, either annual, lifetime, or per incident.

Generally speaking, other companies offer unlimited benefits as an option available only for their highest level and most expensive plans. This is not the case with Healthy Paws; it is included in their standard price plan.

As long as the condition or treatment is covered under the plan (very few restrictions do apply) there is no limit to what the company will pay to make your animal well.

One Healthy Paws customer reported to us that the company recently paid out over $18,000 on a $20,000 vet bill in order to save the life of a dog suffering from cancer. More recently, another customer wrote, "I have a six-year-old German shepherd. Unfortunately, he already has had more than his share of problems, from herniated discs to cancer. Healthy Paws has not given me any hassle or trouble, even though his expenses to date are approaching $40,000. This was by far the best financial decision I have ever made."

As with deductibles, Healthy Paws is in line with the industry's best companies by allowing you the flexibility of customizing your reimbursement percentage as well.

You can select either 70%, 80%, or 90% at the outset of your policy. Healthy Paws reimbursement is based on the actual veterinary bill.

The company will compile all covered treatments for a given claim and pay your chosen percent after you've met the deductible. As with low deductibles, high percentage payouts are going to equal a more costly monthly premium.
In general, Healthy Paws pays on a reimbursement model. Policyholders pay the vet up front for treatment, submit their claims to Healthy Paws, and receive a reimbursement. However, in situations where pet owners can't pay their vet at the time of treatment, they have the option of contacting Healthy Paws and asking them to pay the vet directly. If the veterinary hospital is willing to accept payment from Healthy Paws, the insurer can work directly with it to expedite access to medical records and claim processing. This direct payment option is available on a case-by-case basis and applies to treatment by any licensed vet in the United States. It is not limited to any specific network of vets.

Healthy Paws enrolls pets 8 weeks and older. While some companies have no upper age enrollment restrictions, Healthy Paws limits coverage to pets 13.99 years old and younger.

Some companies offer accident coverage immediately upon premium payment. Healthy Paws imposes a 15-day waiting period for accidents and illnesses.

The waiting period for hip dysplasia is 12 months. Healthy Paws will not cover hip dysplasia if the pet was 6 years or older at the time of enrollment. Other companies we review have no such restrictions on hip dysplasia.

For pets younger than 6 you'll have to provide documentation of a complete physical within the last 12 months. Pets older than 6 must have had a complete examination within the last 30 days.

We read our policy very thoroughly once we received it, and felt sure we had good coverage for our dog, but didn't expect to need it within the first year. That's the nature of emergencies, isn't it? We submitted our claim and were so relieved when we had exactly the coverage we thought we had. No unpleasant surprises. Very prompt processing and reimbursement. Great communication too. Overall very satisfied with Healthy Paws and certainly would recommend.

We rescued our pup, Maggie, 20 months ago and we bought pet insurance with Healthy Paws after doing much research. The rates and insurance plan choices were good as were the reviews and ratings. We have been so happy with Healthy Paws Pet Insurance. They have stayed consistent with the insurance plan as stated and have reimbursed us quickly and always correctly. Maggie has unfortunately had a series of digestive issues and not only have they paid all the costs but we also received a sincere email checking to see how she was. We've have been pleased and impressed with every aspect of our relationship with Healthy Paws.

Healthy Paws has been amazing! We have two dogs that both have developed some issues and, if not for Healthy Paws, we could not have afforded the care they needed. The cost is affordable, the claim process is smooth and easy and reimbursement happens very quickly. I highly recommend Healthy Paws Pet Insurance.

I don't know what I would have done without them. I signed up for healthy paws a few days after I picked up my perfect little pup, he's now 5 years old. This year has been a doozy!! He tore hi ACL on the left side in June, the surgery was 5k, he then needed physical therapy, and right when we were clear to get back to normal activity he tore the other side, only 3 months later! This side was 6k because they also found a mass they needed to remove. Over 12k in vet bills in 3 months, and more to come with therapy. Healthy paws saved his quality of life! As a pet owner that paid for Healthy Paws Pet Insurance for over 3 years, I had my first chance to use it when two of my healthy 3 year old cats landed in the emergency room with a severe upper respiratory virus, at the same time. Five days in the hospital and many thousands of dollars later, I sent in the medical documents and bills to Healthy Paws wondering what kind of response I would receive. Healthy Paws is the best insurance you can get for your pet. My Golden has had several health scares this year 2020. Healthy Paws has been great I highly suggest you get this insurance for your fur kids it’s the best. Pam Blaco and Quinn Quinn is doing much better. Healthy Paws has been a nightmare. We had to submit the same paperwork 5 times. They finally acknowledged the claim and demanded a full history on our dog. After going thru this process for 4 months, we refused to participate in the sham any longer. We told them to close the claim and cancel the policy, but they refused to do either. They are only concerned with collecting their premium. I advise anyone who is looking for pet insurance to avoid Healthy Paws. David M.

I do not have enough positive things to say about my experience with Healthy Paws! Seriously, just get it. Despite some teasing from friends about enrolling in pet insurance (I heard a lot of "its just a cat, it'll be fine"), I figured it was a good thing to do when I got my two kittens, Loki and Bo, about 4 years ago. I did my research, and the reviews I found online indicated that Healthy Paws seemed to be the one people liked the most. That, combined with the affordable monthly fee and low deductible meant that it wasn't going to break the bank, even if my cats never needed it.
