Our Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

I called and was disconnected twice while waiting for an agent to come on line. I dropped on star from the rating because of this inconvenience. After speaking with your agent, I was completely satisfied with the courtesy, patience, knowledge, and competence demonstrated by her. I was given the information and advice I required to make a decision about a repair submission, my current insurance plan, and much more. I am very happy with the service department, once the phone equipment established contact.

When I placed my claim the person I spoke with did not tell me that if my item needed to be replaced, it would not be covered. After 24 hours neither one of my two claims have been picked up. I decided to go with the reimbursement plan in order to speed up the process. The repairman and I waited on the phone for an hour to speak with the authorization department only to be told that the replacement would not be covered. I have paid for your service and should not have to find a repair person myself. That is what I am paying your company to do. This is the first time I have placed a claim and am very sorry that I am stuck with your company until 2023.

Your computer went wrong by selecting a package for a home I'm trying to get rid of. I called in and issue was resolved. And I selected to quote on a new house which we had bought in SC.

Scam - Scam - Scam !! Choice Home Warranty owes our company for six service calls. They have made no attempt to pay, upon numerous telephone conversations they agree that the money is owed but they say that because we have them on credit hold they will not pay. They are real nice to get you to buy, but they do not pay there vendors and go the cheapest route concerning your maintenance. Do not buy this crap you will regret it!!!!!

CHW was unable to provide a plumber and I found my own. The plumbing company, "Speedy Plumbing" said they would not deal with CHW as there were many lawsuits against them for non payment. When I called the authorization department as instructed to do so via e-mail, I was on hold for approximately 15 minutes. Rep said that the plumbing company would have to call them with the diagnosis and refused to call them to follow-up. I did as instructed and plumber was very hesitant to have any dealings with CHW, but agreed to try. My expense so far has been $145 and still needs further repair. I have heard this complaint from other vendors before, regarding non-payment from CHW.

This was my first call to Choice Home Warranty for service regarding my heating system. I was not impressed with your customer service and hope that your technicians in my area is much better, otherwise I will be looking for another home warranty service.

Choice Home Warranty is a good service but there are improvements that can be made. First, have a live person instead of a subpar robovoice contact the customer when a claim has been submitted. More often than not, the claim is due to an issue and the homeowner is already worried and/or stressed. Having a voice to speak to ensures that you really do care about your customers. Next, certain claims should be considered an emergency and dispatched as such. My current claim is for a heating issue; it's currently 20 degrees outside so that should be considered an emergency. It should not be left up to the customer to try to work out a deal to have a company come out in these instances... Read More
