Our Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

Contract & Price - 5 / 5

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Making the claim for my faulty sump Pump was easily and quickly done. The schedule of the technician was done almost immediately, as well as the arrival of the repairman. The repairman quickly identified the problem and resolved it in a timely manner. I am totally satisfied with CHOICE Warranty program.

The repair company assigned to my claim, H&K, arrived as scheduled.. They found two separate issues and resolved them both - one potentially could have caused a fire if not resolved properly. The repairmen were polite, efficient, and left things in order. GREAT JOB!

In regards to my last service call, I never recieved a call nor services to rectify my AC problem. Due to the extreme heat in Louisiana, I sought out a repairman personally and had the AC problem. Since being with CHOICE HOME WARRANTY, this type of lack response, issue with contractors providing timely service, payment for contrator service, etc. is a norm. The overall rating for the services received since I became a policy holder is POOR.

Technician was due between 11AM and 3PM. Did not show up until 6PM. I called plumbing company at 3:30PM, since there was no word from them. They thought it was between 11AM and 4PM...poor coordination between Choice and plumbing company. Technicians diagnosed problem and replaced disposal. Nice, polite team, and they cleaned up. So, good and bad about the whole experience.

My AC went out in the middle of the hot summer. Choice sent a technician out that said I had a leak and it wasn’t covered because the unit wasn’t maintenanced properly. Mind you I JUST had an AC tune up less than a year prior. So I had to pay out of pocket for a leak test and for Freon to be added back. THEN less than a month later, it stopped working again. Choice sent the same repair man out and now my compressor has to be replaced. And guess what???!!! It’s not covered either!!!! So another $600 spent to fix that. Choice is a rip off and will find any reason to not cover your appliances. This is not the first time they refused to cover something that went out. My advice is to just save... Read More

I haven't dealt much with them yet. They are really fast about getting a technician scheduled on the way but when one didn't come the exact day they had planned they closed out my claim which made it a pain because I had to reopen a new claim. I was able to have a technician come out but the claim was closed so I had to redo everything and missed the chance for technician to come out. Too big of a hassle to deal with on that.
